My hijack this log is attached; please note that I tried to do the Windows automatic update but I got the error message that it could not do it and I needed to go to start/run services.msc and check automatic updates. Automatic updates is indicated as "started."

I have numerous programs/icons that keep reappearing even though I have deleted them. I have run adaware and bps sypware; I have aol automatic security version.

Can you help?

You also need to make sure the services, Background Intelligence Transfer Service (BITS) is started, and I believe Event Logging or Error Reporting are also started in order for Windows Updates to work correctly. One more thing, you have to use Internet Explorer on the web page. Do not download Service Pack 2 yet. If you are infected with malware it will interfere with the installation of Service Pack 2 and leave you with even bigger problems.

Also:
Click Here download the latest version of Hijack This (1.98.2). It's better able to catch the latest threats.

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall any or all of the following:

Ezula
TV Media
Windows Adcontrol
NewDotNet (new.net)
WebRebates
WhenU
180 Solutions
myway
mysearch
mywebsearch
viewpoint manager
viewpoint
wild tangent
weatherbug

gator
gmt
wintools
any searchbar/toolbar besides google

Reboot:

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox): Needs to be run with Internet Explorer.
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here: (you will have to download the 30 day trial of "The Cleaner" here)
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and we'll remove what's left.

Please Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and run the program. Disconnect from the internet and close all Internet Explorer windows. Check the "I know what I'm doing" Button and remove all traces of [calsp.dll] and [aklsp.dll].
  • Prepare CWShredder:
    • Download CWShredder v1.59.1.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Do not run it yet. We will run it later.
  • Run Symantec's BackDoor Removal Tool:
    • Download the Backdoor.Agent.B Removal Tool from Symantec.
    • Follow Symantec's instructions for how to run it.
    • Be sure to save the log file. I will need to see it later.
    • Restart your computer.
  • Run CWShredder. Be sure to click Fix as opposed to Scan Only. It should find some things and remove them.
  • Restart your computer once more.
  • Post a new HijackThis log and the log Symantec's tool gave you.

Ok, 2 more programs you need to download, install, Update, and run. I just want to get your system cleaned up as much as possible before we manually start to remove entries with hijack this (that will be the next step).

Spybot Search & Destroy Download and install. Start Spybot S&D, Click the Search for updates button, if any are found then click the Download Updates button. After all updates are downloaded, click the Check for problems button. When the scan is complete, place a check next to anything marked in red, then click the Fix selected problems button. You may need to run Spybot S&D multiple times to remove all infections.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:
  • Automatically save log-file
  • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
  • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :
  • Scan Within Archives
  • Scan Active Processes
  • Scan Registry
  • Deep Scan Registry
  • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
  • Scan my Hosts file
  • Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
  • All of your hard drives
-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
  • Include additional process information
  • Include additional file information
  • Include environment information
  • Include additional object details
-> Click the Tweak button and select:
  • Under the Scanning Engine:
    • Unload recognized processes during scanning
    • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
    • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Under the Cleaning Engine:
    • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:
  • Use Custom Scanning Options
-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

-> Reboot your computer.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic.

You also still need to uninstall Ezula.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.
Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.
Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\Program Files\SED
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieyq32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\psndtea.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wbrbbb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\oakheme.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\??chost.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Amanda\Application Data\onwo.exe
C:\documents and settings\amanda\local settings\temp\zbT8J.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\netsj32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iewb.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Amanda\Application Data\smrb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\??rss.exe

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot normally and post new log. Let us know how things are working.
