It's got a good hold on my system, almost ready to re-format. Here's what I have tried so far:

- Did not need to run WinSock
- Ran CleanUp!
- Ran Ad-aware SE
- Ran CWShredder
- Ran Spybot S&D
- Ran Ewido

Rebooted

- Ran Norton Antivirus full system scan (came up clean)
- Ran Ad-aware again (found 2 SurfSideKick instances, removed them)
- Ran CleanUp!

Logged off & Rebooted

- Ran Ad-aware again (found 2 SurfSideKick instances, removed them)

Rebooted

- Ran Ad-aware again (found 2 SurfSideKick instances, removed them)

Rebooted

- Ran HijackThis (sending log and communicating to you now from a different computer)

now close all windows and browsers and click FIX CHECKED

Then go to ADD\REMOVE programs in the control panel and remove :-


SurfSideKick


Then boot up in SAFE MODE

Then navigate to and delete these files\folders in BOLD


C:\WINDOWS\U2FyYQAA<----folder


then boot up normally.


Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files,


Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #4 to Merge Winlogon Notify Defaults, Press enter, wait a few moments
Now select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear,
then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

A few things that may be worth noting when following your excellent instructions:
1) O20 - Winlogon Notify: StillImage - C:\WINDOWS\system32\kvdfc.dll --- was not there when I re-ran HJT
2) When removing SurfSideKick, a dialog box came up requesting that I type in a security code (shown) to confirm user initiated uninstall
3) After booting in safe mode to delete the U2FyYQAA folder, Internet Explorer tried to launch, I shut it down immediately
4) I've been keeping my wireless network connection disabled during the infection, continue doing this?

I have NAV and Ad-aware, keep them up-to-date and scan once a week.

DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE run your anti virus, when you get the all clear
restart your system restore.(same page).then create a new restore point.
this is to ensure that if you have to do a system restore in the future that you don't get all the nasties reinstalled again.

Then

Go to TOOLS\INTERNET OPTIONS. and delete all TEMP INTERNET FILES


Download CCLEANER


then run the scan under the windows tab.


then DEFRAG your C:\ drive.

to help speed up your system.

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.

Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to prompt

Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable

Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt

Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
