OK...all of the Hijack Log files were there, and I checked them and then fixed. Then I re-booted in Safe mode and ran cleanup. Some of the rogue files you wanted me to delete were ther and some weren't.

The ones that were NOT there:

-The Program Files\ISTcvs folder was not there

-The following files were NOT there:

CROS32.dll
ADDID32.EXE
NTEZ32.EXE
RMPCMUHJ.EXE
ied_s7.cab
x.cab
eied_s7.cab
ex.cab

The only thing present from your list that I deleted was wucrtupd.DLL

However, I did notice in C:\ there was a eied_s7 zip file. I did NOT delete it though.

Here is the latest Hijack Log:

I did notice in C:\ there was a eied_s7 zip file

Are you familiar with this files ??? Chances are that it is a bad file, specially if you dont know anything about it.

Download DelDomains.inf.

Right click on it and then Click on Install.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log.

Let me know how your PC is behaving !!!!!

Everything seems to be running Ok. There are only two probelms I am having:

1) Everytime I start-up I get this about:blank web page that pops up. I just close it, and continue on.

2) Everytime I shut down, a window pops up and tell me something is still running, at which I just click the end task button and it closes down?

Also, what should I do with the downloaded programs(I think we are up to 10!)?
Should I delete them?

Thanks for all of your help!

I am including the folder C:\Program Files\TV Viewer in the fix for removal. In case you use this folder with any program like watching online TV or connecting your TV into your PC, then let me know.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mdac_runonce] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\runonce.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [TVWakeup] C:\Progra~1\TVView~1\tvwakeup.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [VidSvr]
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Announcements] C:\Program Files\TV Viewer\annclist.exe
O4 - Startup: Updates from HP.lnk = C:\Program Files\BackWeb\BackWeb\Program\backweb.exe
O4 - Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including temporary internet files

Run Ewido full scan. Let it fix any items it finds.

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -

TV Viewer
MS Web TV

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

Folders
C:\Program Files\TV Viewer

Files
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\runonce.exe

OK. I have done that. How does everything look? So far so good. Although, I still get the about:blank page when I start up. Interestingly, now during start-up if I od not close the about:blank page everything loads properly. If I close the about:blank page prior to the system completely loading, I will stall and have a desktop with icons showing, but I can't click on anything (including the start key?????

Hi,

You still have these entries in your HJT log -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mdac_runonce] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\runonce.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [TVWakeup] C:\Progra~1\TVView~1\tvwakeup.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [VidSvr]
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Announcements] C:\Program Files\TV Viewer\annclist.exe

Did you have any issues while deleting them or deleting the folder C:\Program Files\TV Viewer ????

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present. Remove the check by "View my Active desktop as a web page".
Click OK then Apply and OK.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with the contents of the smitfiles.txt log by using Add Reply.

I ran SMITREM, and then double checked that my view desktop as web page was unchecked, but I could not find the securtiy info check box anywhere???

I then tried to run Panda Activescan, but I received an error when trying to run it from the website. It said that it would not allow me to download active X files or something like that. So I was un-able to do the Panda scan. I am running windows 98 does that matter???

Here is the SMITREM log:
