If memory serves me right, then Office 2003 is a older version then Office XP. Anyhow, the documents may not open due to the fact that the documents contain newer/older features then the program can handle.

Remove all versions of Office if you purchased the full version of Office 2003.

Download and run this to remove Office Installation files only

Reboot

Run Microsoft Update

http://update.micros...t.aspx?ln=en-us

Clean the Office 2003 discs carefully then install

Choose complete installation, run all from my computer if you have the room

Run Microsoft Update

http://update.micros...t.aspx?ln=en-us

Reboot

Open Word
