remove icons form system tray

Does anyone know how to remove icons from the system tray? I need to remove two from my system tray only they are hp deskjet 5550 and windows messenger. Anyone know how?

for messenger, go to: control panel, then administrative tools, then click on services. after that, where it says messenger, click on it and click disabled.

or you can just go to add/remove programs then click on add/remove windows components and uncheck messenger...

dont know of anything to get rid of the deskjet thing

it is already disabled and it is still in my system tray. any other possibilities?
