I have been trying to demolish the annoying WinAdCtl.exe and WinAdAlt.exe programs at startup but cannot find anyway to KEEP them from not running. Here is my HiJackThis results. Can someone please help me. This is getting very frusterating.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Thank You so much for the reply... When I signed on to my user from the Windows XP Start up screen, it came to the desktop very fast, I thank you again for that. Its working alot better, but I have one more little thing I wanted to fix, Internet Explore always pops up when I start windows, it will go to my homepage, can we fix that? oh and I forgot to inform you that I could not find:

c:\windows\EliteToolbar
c:\windosw\Elites
c:\system32\windowsxt.exe

Elite Toolbar was still in my add/remove programs, so I removed it. but I hope it stays off, next time I reboot it will probably come up again. But we'll see.

thanks again for the reply, yes I could view hidden files, I found the EliteToolbar folders and deleted them, everything seems to be working fine. The pop-up's are gone and everything is running how it used to. Thanks again.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D
