Can you assist me in getting Winfixer removed from my compuer. It showed up over the weekend and runs in the background. I have tried to remove it but have been unsuccessful. I have also started getting pop-ups which we weren't getting before Winfixer showed up.

Thanks for the help :tazz:

Hi Pop Family and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

a. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
b. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
c. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

Your system has numerous serious infections. The disinfection will take several posts and require a lot of effort on both our parts.

1. Download this tool: LQfix.zip
Unzip it to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet!

IMPORTANT! Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').

2. Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, that is normal.

3. Reboot into normal mode and scan with HijackThis.

================================================

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.
  • Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.

    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
    • The program will now go to the main screen
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
    • Click on Start
    • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the updates are installed do the following:

  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop
  • Reboot your machine and post back a new HJT log and the ewido .txt log file you saved by using Add Reply

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Trackgoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up. Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi Trevuren,

I'm trying to take over this problem and hopefully didn't mess things up since I am computer illiterate. I went ahead and followed the directions for the WindPFind
like you said. But I goofed on the "Track qoo.vbs". I accidentally started to do it in Safe Mode and then hit allow program? to run. After realizing it is in Safe mode, moved over to the Normal mode. Now I get
Windows Script Host
c:\Documents an Settings\Karyn\Local Setting\Tem\Temporary Directory for Trackqoo [1].zip\Track qoo vbs
Line 16
Char 1
Error 0x90041001
Code 80041001
Source: Null

Sorry about that. Now what.

Also need to add that we went to the desktop and deleted it, but then went back into track qoo vbs and undeleted it so I can get a response back from you. No track qoo.vbs icon in the desktop.

Try downloading TrackGoo again and start over from scratch. I cannot overstress the importance of following provided directions very closely. Print them out if you wish. Many people find it easier to follow hard copy instructions than screen instructions.

Tried to download Trackgoo again like you said and when I double click on "track qoo.vbs, I keep getting the Windows Script Host message like the one I stated in Post 9 and 10. Will follow instructions very carefully now. Husband will be back to finish working on this. Sorry for the incompetence.
