[PhishHead]

I've tried running TrojanHunter and Kapinsky's Antivirus Software but still have this virus. I've attached my HiJack this logs and would really appreciate some help.

Ok a couple things to do right away.

1. We need to put hijack this into a safer location, follow these directions please.

Double-click on the zip file containing the HijackThis.exe file. Select the HijackThis.exe, and hit the combination “Ctrl + C”.
Minimize the zipfolder, and go to My Computer. Double-click on C:/, then double-click on Program Files.

In the menu bar you’ll find “File”. Click it, then choose “New”, and then “Folder”.

Call this folder HijackThis. Double-click to open this – new – folder.
Now use the combination “Ctrl + V” to paste the HijackThis.exe into this folder. Now close all other windows, and double-click on the HijackThis.exe in the folder you’ve just created.

Then this comes after that please.

Download LQFix (by Miekiemoes) from here :

Unzip it to the Desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Next, reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, run (double-click) LQfix.bat. You will see a DOS window appear and disappear - that's normal. Reboot the computer normally, then scan with HijackThis! again and post the new logfile here.

Hi thanks so much for the help

I've done what you said above but when I ran LQFix I got a message saying an error had occured and if I would like to send an error report to Microsoft. I choose to not send the message. I ran hijackThis after and this is the log I got. thanks again for the help

I wanted to save this for a little later, but now seems like good a time as any.

Please download the Ewido Security Suite (trial version) from here :

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ ...and install it. Update to the newest definitions. Do not run this yet

This tool works best in safe mode, so thats the way were going to go. Here's a link to a short tutorial if your not sure how to get there.

Reboot your computer in safe mode

After completing the task and booted back to normal mode send me the ewido scan report and a new hijack log please.

Some more tools to run, please.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

This will likely be a few step process in removing the malware that has infected your system. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

You have a nasty CoolWebSearch infection. First we will need to download a few tools that will help us in the removal of your problem.

Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY Here.
Download CWShredder Here.
Download SpSeHjfix Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Unzip SpSeHjfix to its own folder (ie c:\SpSeHjfix)

Run the CleanUp! installer. You dont need to do anything with it right now.

Update About:Buster

• Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
• Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
• Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
• Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
• If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
• Now close About:Buster

Update CWShredder

• Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
• Click Check For Update
• Close CWShredder

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please run about:buster by RubbeRDuckY:

• Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
• Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
• It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
• When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
• Reboot your computer into safe mode again

Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Now run SpSeHjfix. A log will be saved in the same folder that you put the exe into. Please post the results of that log in your next reply.

Now run CleanUp!. Click CleanUp and allow it to delete all the temporary files.Reboot your computer into normal windows.

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

After all that, please post back with how things went as well as the logs requested and a new HiJackThis log.

Go back into safe mode please, when there fire up hijack this, press scan and place checks next to these.

Well I can finally say this that log is clean, congrats!!!!!

Since your issues have been addressed and you are ready to travel the net again, I will just give you a few ideas on how to stay safe out there. Best of all these programs are all readily available on the net for free

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Antiviruses play an important role in keeping your computer safe and worry free while using the net. *NOTE* Only one antivirus must be allowed to run on your computer, as having two or more running can and will cause conflicts.

You must stay on top of your updates at all times, for the above mentioned applications.

It is vitally important to stay on top of your critical updates provided by microsoft.

This can be accessed by going to Windows Updates and following the prompts.

To add to the performance of your computer, i suggest a weekly maintenance program. Run this tool. Ccleaner

Lastly a second opinion on the Antivirus that you have chosen. I suggest running these online virus scans periodically, just to make sure that the av is doing a proper job, of keeping you safe :
