For whatever reason, my spell check has never worked on my OE. The icon is there, but not active. Not sure why. Has anyone else ever encountered this?

For the spellchecker to work you need to have Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint installed as well.
This is what the help file says in OE:

"Outlook Express uses the spelling checker provided with the following Microsoft Office programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. If you do not have one of these programs installed, the Spelling command is not available".
