Hi guys,

Switched my PC and an error came up as

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is corrupt and it prompts you to be in your Windows CD.

Well, is the best way to do it as I heard that unless you get of this problem correctly it will keep coming back?

Instead of wiping it should I just try and repair it?

Thanks for any help!!

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. You could try going to start, run and type
sfc /scannow You will need to have your windows installation disk in the cd drive so it can find any files that need to be replaced.

you can also try this:

start - run - type "chkdsk". it will check for any errors on your harddisk.

Hi, Sorry for the delay,

When I switch on the PC, its just a black screen so I dont even get as far as the Windows Splash screen. The only option I have is to press R and TRY and fix the problem.

I dont think I can even get into Safe Mode.

Thanks, any input would be gratefully recieved,

Yes, boot with the windows CD and repair.. This will replace all system files in your system folder and revert them back to the way they were from the CD
