Hi guys,

HELP my brain hurts! Ok i have an emergency email address set up so that any email received on that account (pop3) is retreived by 4 pcs ( lounge, bedroom, work, and the Ex's house, reason:- work alarm system, emergency client out of hours requests, one foot in the grave relatives around the world etc) with 2 of the pcs running outlook express set to play a loud tune upon receipt and 2 pcs running outlook displaying an on screen warning and auto-printing the incoming message. The problem i am experiencing, and all seemed fine 4 months ago when first set up, is all 4 pcs now appear to be choosing what emails they wish to recieve. i can send a test email (obviousley from a different account) and have it appear on 1 ,2 or 3 of the pcs but not the fourth, send another it will arrive at 1 & 3, another only goes to one etc etc. only once in a while will all 4 recieve sucesfully. WEIRD!

Ok the techy bit. All mail programs are configured identically. pop.1and1.co.uk, auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk, user name, password, my server requires auth, in the advanced tab, leave a copy of message on server and nothing else is selected. So, as far as my little grey matter can figure, the message arrives at my mail server(1and1) each pc should connect, check the mail headers, and download the newley arrived mail, without removing it from the server, so it is still there for each of the other machines to collect, correct? or am i sadly misguided and dilusional?

As always, any help or suggestions are very welcome. the more the merrier as they say!

many thanks

ian

Looks like you've configured everything correctly. 1&1 uses proprietary technology for their mail servers, and I'd say the problem is on their end. Have you checked with them?

Hi

Thanks for the reply! In the past ive been helped greatly but the staff of 1 and 1's excellent support team. However, they like so many others are very rapidly adopting the stance of "not us-it must be something else, so we can not help....good bye!", which i find not in the least bit helpfull!
But now i am armed with the knowledge that my configuration is, on the face of it, good, I will contact them.

many thanks.
