hello!I have windows xp and would like to install red hat 8 on the same pc so that i can have them both on one computer.Is it possible to install red hat 8 without messing with windows?And also would the Acronis disk partitioning program help?All in all i need a way of installing it without messing with windows, has anybody got a way to do it?Thanks in advance.

Assuming you only have one partition, you'll need a partition editor. QTParted is free, and comes with knoppix. I suggest downloading knoppix, which is just great to have around anyways.

Would something like VMWare be a solution?
You can run your lunix on a virtual machine, from a file. Even while your XP is still running (well, preferrably, without it VMWare won't run). And when you need some extra OOMPH for a game or so, you can just shoot down the virtual machine.

I don't know how smart the software for partitioning is nowadays, but partitioning a disk with data on it sounds like risky business.
If you were to try it, I'd say, make backups of everything you don't want to lose.

thanks for the replies.Well i'll try re-installing windows first, when i find the cd becuse i didnt get one with the pc.Anyway, that QTParted is for windows yea?and it can make partitions in windos without reinstalling windows and i can put linux on that partition after yea?One more thing, what is the size of it?
