I need serious help on this one. The last few days, I've been getting some weird prompts upon startup of my computer. I think the title bar said ics or something and I can't remember what the error message was before, but I didn't think much of it.

Yesterday, I start my computer and I get a dozen popups all saying file not found. Upon clicking ok for these promts, another promt for each one comes up saying no admin rights. Then, WHENEVER I CLICK ON A SHORTCUT TO A PROGRAM, THE PROMT COMES UP AGAIN SAYING "File not found" "No admin rights." I CANNOT ACCESS ANY PROGRAM SHORTCUT. I'm only able to open certain programs, such as firefox, by using shortcuts to other files (HTML for firefox, any music file for winamp). I check my processes and what do I see? Every time one of those prompts opens up, a process called winrar.exe starts up. There's one for EVERY prompt that opens up, and no matter how many times I close them, they keep coming back. I know winrar is a legitimate program, but this is ridiculous.

I checked the internet a bit and found out some stuff about a CoolWebSearch malware that goes under the name of winrar.exe, but I have yet to read anything about it and my computer trouble.

I ran a full hard drive error check and it got rid of the "no admin rights" message, so now it only says file not found every time. I can't run spybot, adaware, avg, or hijack this. I am locked out of 90% of my computer... I started up in safe mode and still the problem persists, and reformatting is not an option for me.

I hope someone can help me because I am in dire need of assistance.

Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and reply here with your log.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

As I've already said, I CANNOT run Hijack This. Is there any other possible solution to my problem?

Hi, sorry for the confusion

try the solution offered here:

http://sarc.com/avce...istry.keys.html

and see if that fixes the problems with running programs. Report back with either success or failure, and any problems you encountered. :tazz:

it might be a good idea to post a HijackThis log now, so we can see if anything is left on your system that caused the problem.
