Hello p_mii_nawy,

Welcome to GeekstoGo my name is Snickets and I will be helping you today!!!

1.Set up a folder by doing the following.
To create a folder:
Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have C:\HJT\ folder.

2. Then go here to download the latest version of hijack this 1.99.1 and save this into the folder you created for hijackthis.

3. Double-click on the hijackthis.exe to scan.
Select "Scan and Save Log".
After the scan save the log somewhere where you will remember.
Then go to the location where you saved the hijack this log and open it up, then hit CTRL A to highlight all the text inside, then right click and hit the copy option then paste the contents back into this thread.

Thank you,

Snickets

Hello p_mii_nawy,

Don't see to much in your log but here are some suggestions on what needs to be taken out of startup.

1.Run HijackThis press scan system only and then check the following items.
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

Optional Removals -
Fixing them here will not prevent you from opening them manually as needed. Your choice to fix based on your needs:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cmaudio] RunDll32 cmicnfg.cpl,CMICtrlWnd
(Description: CMedia audio card system tray applet. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe
(Description: The WinAmp Agent. This puts a WinAmp icon is your system tray. It is completely unnecessary, and some viruses may hide in this file. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe
(Description: Loads the System Tray icon for the WinAmp media player. Can be used to mantain file associations so programs like QuickTime and RealPlayer don't take over as default player for various media types. Available via Start -> Programs. If you don't use WinAmp constantly, removing this entry will free up some system resources. )

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_01\bin\jusched.exe
(Description: Sun Java update scheduler. Checks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
(Description: Nvidia system tray applet. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
(Description: Microsoft Office Startup Assistant. This program loads some Microsoft Office components into memory, even if you're not currently using MS Office. Removing this unnecessary program will free up a considerable amount of system resources.)

After checking these entries CLOSE ALL open windows [browsers and programs] EXCEPT HijackThis and click "Fix Checked."

2. Please reboot your computer at this time.

3. Once back in normal mode please do the following.

Post a startuplist please. In Hijackthis press the Config Button
Click Misc Tools
Check both boxes under the Generate StartupList log and then click the generate startuplist log button.

Paste the contents into your next reply here, along with a new HijackThis scan so that I can see where we are at this time.

Thank you,

Snickets

Hello p_mii_nawy,

1.Download: CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/
http://www.filehippo...d_ccleaner.html

Once installed, launch CCleaner:
Do not change any settings, except to make sure on the Options tab>Advanced "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours" is NOT checked.
Click Run Cleaner (bottom right). When finished> Exit (top right) (reboot)

2.Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

3.Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4.Once in safe mode please run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

6.Reboot into normal windows.

7.Please rescan with hijack this and paste the new log along with the ewido scan into this thread for me to review.

Thank you,

Snickets

Hello p_mii_nawy,

Let's try clearing out your host files now and then see where we are after this is complete.
Download the Hoster Here
Please do not use program yet

Unzip Hoster to your desktop

Open up the Hoster program.
  • Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
  • Click back up Host files
  • then click Restore orginal host files
  • close program
Please reboot after the above is complete and then once back in normal mode rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log for me to review.

Please let me know how the system is running in your next reply as well.

Thank you,

Snickets

Hello p_mii_nawy,

Did you run Hoster on the machine?

There is one line that you will need to fix in hijack this.

1.Please scan with hijack this and place a check next to the following item.
O1 - Hosts: 66.218.72.56 red.clientapps.yahoo.com
After this is complete please close out all browser windows and programs except for HijackThis and click the fix checked button.

Please reboot your computer at this time.

Then please rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log for me to review.

Thanks,

Snickets

Hello p_mii_nawy,

Congratulations your log appears to be clean.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and Spyware Aid's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Thank you,

Snickets
