This is regarding a Windows XP Professional,SP2 with IE6, SP2. It has been doing this for about a month now: When I first boot it up, there is a black screen that reads – Realtec RTL8139 (X)/8130/810X Boot Agent. Press Shift F-10 to configure.

I press that, and nothing happens. I then have to push the power button to shut down. I reboot (after 15 seconds) and just get a black screen, with no printing on it.

I push power button again to shut down. I reboot (after 15 seconds). Get a black screen. I push power button to shut down, and reboot. Same black screen, with no printing on it. I then unplugged the computer for 20 minutes, plugged it in again, and rebooted, and I get the same black screen, and have to turn power off again.

For a couple of weeks, the desk top would come up when I unplugged the computer from the wall, plugged it in again and booted up. But it will not do that now.

I put in a Windows startup disk, and still the black screen. I put in a Windows XP disk, and the black screen. Anyone know what is going on? The monitor is an older Mitsubishi, but it has been doing a good job. If it was the monitor, wouldn't there be some subtle problems at first, instead of just going out on me?

This is a computer I gave to my daughter about five months ago. I use it a lot when I go to see her. She lives in the same city as I.

The computer has all of its updates, both Windows, virus and spyware.

Thanks much,

Anna Ruth

Uh, Oh, Keith, I do not see where I reply to your reply. I will learn. IN any event, How can I do that when I cannot get anywhere on the computer. All I get is a black screen. If I could get to the desktop, I could get to the site you sent. In any event, on the Windows XP Professional, there is pcwizard 2005, which shows everthing about the computer.

Fair comment

It is being stalled by the Realtek file

Try these in order

You need the Windows Installation CD to repair the current installation, last in list

In reality a monitor is not needed to boot a computer..

Does the computer HD seem to wanna continue with activity even after the black screen?...if yes then it is booting up....if not could be you have to configure your realtech before continuing your boot....In any case it sounds to me as though your monitor has issues.....Got another monitor you can borrow from a friend or someone just to test and see if thats the problem?

Just some thoughts.......

I think one of the mods should move this to hardware and let the experts there take a look at this problem. I think this is a hardware, not Windows issue.

it seems that the video driver is either corrupted or not loading...hence the message during boot.....doesn't really seem like a monitor thing...if it's not an onboard video card then try taking it out. boot the machine. turn it off...put the card back in and boot again
