I've been having a major problem getting rid of whatever malware is on my computer that is causing popups very frequently, most annoyingly the Winfixer popups which try to download winfixer onto my computer. I've tried running multiple adware/spyware removers but the problem isn't going away. I'd be very appreciative if you all could give me some advice. Here's my HijackThis log:

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware SE from HERE (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version 1.0.6 and always go online and update it before you run it).

If you have an older version than 1.0.6, PLEASE uninstall your current version. Delete the following folder.. C:\Program Files\Lavasoft. Empty recycle bin. Then install the latest one..

1. Set up the Configurations as follows:

• Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
  
• Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
  
• Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".

2. Click on "Proceed".

Exit Ad-aware for now, we'll continue with it soon.

Download Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in HERE

• Install the VX2 Cleaner
• Start Ad-Aware SE
• Go to "Plug-ins"
• Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run Tool" (Before running the VX2 Cleaner, make sure other anti-virus or anti-spyware applications are closed.)
• Click "OK" when asked if you want to execute this tool.
• If your computer isn't infected, click "Close".

If your computer is infected;

• Select "Clean"
• Reboot your system.
• Scan your computer with Ad-Aware as follows

1. Click on "Scan Now"
2. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
3. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
4. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
9. When the scan has completed, select Next.
10. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
11. Check the box next to every "target family" for removal.
12. Click "Next", Click "OK".

• Reboot your computer again
• Run a second scan to make sure there isn't anything left.

Then post a fresh HijackThis logfile.

If the VX2 cleaner plug-in detects no VX2, can you then run the Ad-aware SE scan with the settings above itself, remove all, then reboot and run another scan.

Allright, I did everything you asked. The VX2 scan was clean, so I ran the normal Ad-Aware scan and removed all the objects. I rebooted and ran Ad-Aware again, and nothing showed up on the scan, but the pop-ups continue. Here's my new HijackThis log. Thank you for the help.

Please download the l2mfix from one of the locations below;

Save the file to your desktop and double-click l2mfix.exe

Click the Install - button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until I ask you to!

Note; if you recieve any error messages for CMD or Autoexec.bat>> select option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the site, click on the link that apply to your operating system!

Double-click the file it downloads and extract the files to its predetermined System32 folder!

Also post a fresh HijackThis log (Don't attach) along with L2Mfix log.

Ok, I downloaded the program and ran it as you said, and the first time it gave me and error so I ran option 5 as you said and did it again. Here is the log from than and a new HijackThis log. Thanks for all the help.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double-click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
