I run Windows XP and have been having internet problems for a few weeks now. I ran through all the malware/spyware/virus/trojan checks with your guys a couple of weeks ago and am fairly certain I have none of those issues.
For about a month now, I have had a shaky internet connection. I am on a cable modem and have had fairly fast download speeds since I've used this ISP. My other laptop still downloads at 600-1000 KB/sec consistently and pretty much without fail. My (slow) computer now downloads consistently at 40-60 kb/sec and occasionally will download at a fast speed for a couple of seconds at a time. In addition, when I'm using it to do some normal web surfing I probably lose my connection once every five minutes or so for a couple of seconds until the connection is re-established. I used to play alot of on-line poker, but have not played in a couple of weeks due to the unreliability of my connection.
I have not been able to figure out the problem. I tried updating my ethernet card drivers, but that didn't really make a difference. Last night, I was surfing the web and came across a forum that suggested resetting the Internet protocol. Since I've had no luck with anything else, I figured it couldn't hurt to try. I did the following:
"In Windows XP, click Start, Run and type netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt into the Open field. Click OK when done."
Then I restarted my computer. Now, my computer won't fully start-up. I get to the opening screen which asks me to pick the user. When I choose a user, my screen then goes blue and my background picture pops up (as it usually done right before it begins to populate the screen with my normal desktop) but then it never gets past that point.
I don't know what to do now. I figure I must need to restart in Safe Mode, but I would have no idea what to do after that. I would really appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks!
