I live in a huse with 4 other people that share one PC. Every time I use the computer I run Ad-aware and Spybot s&d before I do anything else. They usually find a hand full of tracking cookies and thatís all, but recently things have gotten very bad. Ad-aware and Spybot donít seem to be cutting it anymore I am getting dozens of pop ups and when I search for what is causing them I keep finding your site telling people how to remove them. Please help if you can here is my hijackthis log

Thanks John

Hello and welcome!

Is that the entire logfile from beginning to end? Seems SLIGHTLY small. You don't have any anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall software installed?

That is all of it I have been disabling thing in an attempt to deal with all the pop ups but they just keep coming. I installed Spyware Blaster and I have the xp Fire wall and no I don't have any anti virus it expired and I have not updated yet. I know that is bad but in the 3 years prior I had some and never found a virus even after updating the definition file regularly

Well none of the programs you have is anti-virus software. You really need one. We'll install free edition of AVG for you. Find it from this list:

http://www.geekstogo...ources-t38.html

Install it, set it up and run a complete scan with it.

After that reboot and do the following:

Please download miekiemoes' LQfix batch here:
LQfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site;
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please run LQfix.bat

When finished, reboot into normal mode.

Post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Please download the l2mfix from one of the locations below;

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double-click l2mfix.exe

Click the Install - button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until I ask you to!

Note; if you recieve any error messages for CMD or Autoexec.bat>> select option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the site, click on the link that apply to your operating system!

Double-click the file it downloads and extract the files to its predetermined System32 folder!

Also post a fresh HijackThis log (Don't attach) along with L2Mfix log.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double-click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
