I have a DSL connection coming into a netgear router. WHen I connect my laptop into the router, it tries takes a long time to connect, then i get an IP address of 169.254.153.254. When I release and renew, I get the message, An error occured while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.

Any ideas? I just ran WinsockXPFix, and no joy. The laptop is running XP. I have another laptop connected to the router and Internet perfectly fine???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Mick

Try to check the following things :
First see that your DHCP server in your router is activated.
Check that your computer is set to obtain IP address automatically.
Check that you use a direct network cable and not a crossed wired cable.

Good Luck
