symwsc.exe High CPU Usage [RESOLVED]

Hello
Recently I have noticed my computer going very very slow. I have run ad-aware, spybot, Trojan Hunter, AVG Free and ewido securit suite and I have cleared everything, although this hasnt changed anything. I have recently defragmented my drive although I am sure this has not made it run slower . When I go into the task manager it says my CPU usage is always 80 - 100% and I know this is defiently not normal as I am not running any programs at all!!! The problem is that the program symwsc.exe is always using around 66% of the computer usage. Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Thanks very much! Oh and by the way, if this in anyway helps, I am using Windows Xp

symwsc.exe is installed by Norton Internet Security Center. This program is essential to operation of this program when installed on your computer. Disabling this service may affect Internet access.

If GetRight is not the paid version, get rid of it/uninstall immediately. There are many bugs that come with an unpaid for version.


I see that you have alot of unnecessary programs on startup. The following is a list of them, you can choose to fix them or not. This will not delete the program,only take it out of start up and free up resources. You can access these programs from start.

Do me a favor. Go to this link and look at the very top of the page. it shows a tool bar. Is that what your tool bar look like?

No, I dont have any toolbars. Its just the program symwsc.exe that is keeping my CPU Usage at 80% and really slowing down my comp.

I know Norton will use alot of the resources. Not sure if thats the case in yours. You are free of any malware, I would suggest that you go to our XP forum and post a thread asking that question and I am sure our Experts there would know.

Well that does change things a bit although I do see this

O23 - Service: SymWMI Service (SymWSC) - Symantec Corporation - c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe

which is the norton security center.


can you tell me the complete path that symwsc.exe is in (ie C:\program files)

Hey, Thanks for all of you help. I successfully fixed the problem by using a norton removal tool :|. Anyway, it fixed it so im happy now. Thanks again for your time.
