oh i cant believe i forgot this lol.
might work, might not:
YOU WILL NEED your XP CD FOR THIS;

go to start > Run and type, sfc /scannow then click open or ok (whichever)

this process will look for missing system files..

O.K. I did that and the Windows file protection thing came up and took quite awhile for the progress bar to fill.But when it was done nothing happened.Is this normal?

Well I still get the same thing with a slight difference.When the explorer error message comes up it used to make everything disappear then reappear.Now it just disappears and I have to hit alt+ctrl+del to bring up task manager and restart explorer.
Also as far as how often it happens, it seems to be better.It no longer does it every time I click start>anything else.It mostly does it when I click My Computer, and sometimes Control Panel.
