Hi,

New here and stumped. My PC runs multiple instances of Svchost.exe (usally 6) and one of them STARTS at 8824k and grows to 20meg plus over time. If I close this instance down, it pops right back open at 8meg again. Anyone have any thoughts as to what it is? Is there a way I can find out? I figure once I have a clue what Im dealing with at least it will be a fair fight... If it helps I can grab a highjackthis log and post.

Thanks

Seger

Hi Seger
Service hosts are legitimate processes on your pc. However it has been known for them to be copied and used for malicious purposes.

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

I don't see anything malicious in your log. I see you have antivirus software on your system, but it's sometimes compromised.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Let us know the results. <_<
