My computer stalls at startup and doesn't get past the initial part. The hour glass keeps going and I can't double-click anything. I can just restart a few times and try to end the top process till it works once in a while. I went into safe mode and ran ad-aware. I tried to follow steps from a different post regarding this but I couldn't find a file called "qptkpw.exe" when running the Process Explorer, but maybe that was specific to that person's problem. I also ran ewido and hijack this.

Please SAVE THIS PAGE or secure a PRINT COPY of the instructions for reference.
Please close all remaining windows, disconnect from the internet, open HijackThis then click SCAN. Please put a check on the following items listed below:

Make sure to double check the items you have selected, then click Fix Checked.

1. Download the FxBeagle.exe file from: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxBeagle.exe.
2. Save the file to a convenient location, such as your downloads folder or the Windows desktop, or removable media known to be uninfected.
3. Close all the running programs before running the tool.
4. If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, disconnect the computer from the network and the Internet.
5. Double-click the FxBeagle.exe file to start the removal tool.
6. Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
7. Restart the computer.
8. Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Reboot in SAFE MODE. (How to boot in Safe Mode...)

Be sure to View Hidden and System Files.

Through Windows Explorer, delete the following folder(s) or files(s) if they exist (in bold):
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\winshost.exe
Finally, Empty Recycle Bin

Do a search through find files or folders for

then delete those files.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

reboot back in NORMAL MODE.

Post back a new HijackThis log as well as the Ewido report.
