I had a virus a few weeks ago. I scaned my system with AVG and the virus was removed. Now I keep getting a message that I have a trojan horse virus on my computer and to run my anti-virus, but when I run AVG there's no virus detected.
Also when I boot up my system I get a message that says DrWatson Postmortem Debugger is operating incorrectly will need to shut down please save open applications. When I click ok my system freeze up. I've ran spybot and ad-aware SE personal but I still get the same message. I went into the registry and disabled DrWatson Postmortem Debugger but I don't won't to keep my system this way because when I reboot up my system with it disabled I get memory errors. I downloaded HiJackThis and ran a scan. If you can give me any assistance I would really appreciate it. <_<

Hi goodtimes. Welcome to GTG. <_<

You have a number of randomonly named files on your system. We like to start with an online virus and trojan scan. Even though you have antivirus software on your system, it can become corrupted by malware.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

Reboot your PC.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:
  • Automatically save log-file
  • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
  • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :
  • Scan Within Archives
  • Scan Active Processes
  • Scan Registry
  • Deep Scan Registry
  • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
  • Scan my Hosts file
  • Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
  • All of your hard drives
-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
  • Include additional process information
  • Include additional file information
  • Include environment information
  • Include additional object details
-> Click the Tweak button and select:
  • Under the Scanning Engine:
    • Unload recognized processes during scanning
    • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
    • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Under the Cleaning Engine:
    • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:
  • Use Custom Scanning Options
-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

-> Reboot your computer.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic.

I followed your directions and I'm no longer getting the DrWatson Postmortem Debugger message any more but I'm still getting a lot of advertisement pop-ups even when I'm offline.

You have a new variation of a VX2 infection, identified by these entries:
O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com
O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com
O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch

There is no automated fix, but there is a work in progress that seems to be working wel (it's rather lenghty).

First, can you please start off by downloading VX2Finder to your desktop from here: http://downloads.sub...Finder(126).exe Start vx2finder, then click on "Click to Find VX2.BetterInternet" and then click "Make Log" and copy and paste the entire contents of the log here.

Also, I'm attaching a batch file by Zupe called Find.bat. Please download it to your desktop, unzip it, then double-click on it to run it. It should run for a few seconds, then open a text document. Please copy and paste the contents of that document here. Once that's done, close the text file and then press a key and the batch file will clean up after itself and end.

Sorry, one more. Please download DllCompare from here: http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=38

When it has downloaded, run the program and click on the Run Locate.com button. When that has completed, click on the Compare button. When that completed click on the Make Log of What Was Found button. Then post the contents of that log as a reply to this post.

Only if you get an error after pressing Run Locate.com:
copy autoexec.nt from c:\windows\repair\ folder to c:\windows\system32\ folder.

Disconnect from the internet.

Download the Killbox here.

Start Killbox and click on Tools --> Select Delete Temp Files. Click OK.

When that finishes, copy and paste each of the following lines into the Full Path of File to Delete box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each.

After each file press the Delete button (the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it).

Keep track of any files it tells you either could not be found or could not be deleted, as you'll need those in a minute:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\c2000cdmef0a0.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cftbrkr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\eccdec.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fysdrv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ir6ql5j51.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\lv0m09d1e.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mlhtml.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mmpistub.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\r86u0i~1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\rnpdd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mdrle32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fn0021dmg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\guard.tmp

For the files that it either couldn't find or couldn't delete, run killbox again, but this time, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer "No" until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer "Yes".

Run again Find.bat, DLLCompare and HijackThis and post the logs please.

Thanks for your patience. Like I said in my first reply, this is a new infection, and we're still working on the fix.

So far there is a fix that has been working successfully, but it relies on finding guard.tmp. When this file hasn't been discovered, the fix hasn't worked. It's assumed guard.tmp is responsible for the automatic reinfection of the system. We haven't found this file in your logs. Apparently there's more than one variation of this infection. rolleyes1.gif

I've bookmarked this thread, and I'm monitoring a couple private forums that are working to come up with a fix. As soon as I have something, I'll reply to this thread. thumbsup.gif
