Hi, first of all - thanks to anyone who picks this up and helps me! I have had problems with aurora and nail.exe. A few months ago I installed and ran all the things recommended by this web site and it certainly helped to some extent - however since then I have had a window pop up at start up saying it couldn't find the nail.exe file. Over the last 24 hours I've logged on and run Ad-aware, CWShredder, Spybot S&D, and my AVG scanner and the window has dissappeared (yeah!). However I still wonder if its all cleared or not, the laptop does seem to be running a little slow still, especially on trying to shut it down. Would you be able to help? • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..

To reboot into SafeMode with Windows XP, you can follow these steps from Microsoft:

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.
Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now as the action.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Now run HijackThis, click Scan, and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

Now run CCleaner.

• Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".

• Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.

Finally, restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the report log from the Ewido scan by using Add Reply

Firstly, thankyou for your reply. I did as you suggested with just a few small hiccups.... On attempting to start the nailfix.exe in safe mode a window came up saying the files were corupted and could not be used. I tried downloading the same file again a few times, then eventually downloaded one from another site. On opening that it flashed a msdos type window then closed itself. I have a feeling it did nothing.

Then on using hijack this, the line

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

did not appear anywhere.
I did find an 04 type line which ended in 'jxecaa.exe r' so I fixed that.

I then went to find the file jxecaa to delete it but couldn't find it (I did have the finder view options to show all types of files), I tried the search engine, but that failed also.

1. Make sure your PC is set to show all hidden files and folders go here for instructions on how to do this. http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

2. Boot into safemode to do this keep tapping F8 on your keyboard while your PC is starting up you will get a menu select safemode.

3. While in safemode open Hijackthis and click scan. Then tick and fix the following in Hijackthis with all windows closed except Hijackthis.

4. Delete the folders. (if present)

c:\program files\180solutions\

5. Reboot and post a new Hijackthis log here in a reply.

Thanks again for your help. I got windows to show me all files as per the instructions, rebooted in safe mode, used HJT to scan and then fix the file you quoted, but couldn't find the folder (c:\program files\180solutions\) to delete. Here's my latest hijack log...

Your log is clean

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

Thanks so much for your help - one query, do the various spyware applications slow down the computer much - I'm thinking of never going online with my laptop again! (I have a desktop that can be sacrificed more readily).
