Hi, recently i have been experiencing several problems with windows.
#1, windows boots and shuts down VERY slowly. it would take windows about 5 minutes to load all of the programs at startup. Windows also takes about 5-10 minutes to shut down. when i press the shut down button it remains on my desktop for about 5 + minutes and then goes to blue screen for another 5+minutes hangs loging off then finally shuts down.
#2 recently i have been unable to open ITunes. when i click on the program to start it nothing happends. when i check in task manager i see the program Itunes running but the program doesnt start up.
#3 some programs have been freezing up when i try to use them. ex. when i tried to use spybot search and destroy it would freeze.

i have scaned my computer using CleanUp!, Ad-aware, cwshredder, ewido, and trojan hunter.
clean up, ad-aware, and ewido have removed many files. trojan hunter has not found any trojans.

even after these scans i still have the same problems

i have tried using windows restore, used system recovery and nothing helped

please help, thanks in advance

edit: ops sorry need to the hijackthis log when i restart comp.

Thanks for the reply

Yes i still have this problem.
well some.the problem with programs freezing i found was caused by norton personal firewall. if i turn it off everything works fine but when i turn on the firewall everything thats trying to access the internet freezes. the norton program doesnt give a pop up to allow access and when i check the configuration for the firewall the programs are there and allowed in the list but arent really able to access the internet and this causes them to freeze. please help with this. i want to be able to use norton firewall.

but i still have the problem with slow shutting down.

i also found another problem. it takes me two times to open my computer. if i start with my computer turned off, i press the power button and the lights flicker and fans start up but my screen is still black. and there is no beep from the computer signaling its finnished the hardware scan. when this happends i have to force turn off the power by pressing the power button for about 5 seconds and pressing it again to turn it on. when its opened the second time the computer loads fine, theres a beep from the computer and the computer works fine after

Hi xxfntmxx,

You have some problems with CnsMin/Chines keywords.

You better print this out or safe it as a text file to your harddisk because we had to work in safe mode

Step 1:

Please download Pocket Killbox, and unzip it to your desktop.
Do not use it yet.

Step 2:

Reboot into safemode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up.
Then select the Safe Mode option.

Kill these running processes with Task Manager:
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qq.exe
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqexternal.exe
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\tbrowser.exe

Step 3:

Please run Killbox.
Select Delete on Reboot.
Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\acodec.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\audiodevice.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\bqqapplication.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\cameradll.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\capfilter.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\chatlib.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\cqqapplication.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\fsm.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\gamepublic.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\inplus.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\iphone.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\mfc42.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\muserapplication.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\newskin.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\parser.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\personaldesktop.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qimage.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqaddinmanager.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqallinone.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqavatar.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqbaseclassindll.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqbuserapplication.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqhelperindll.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqhook.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqmail.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqmainframe.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqmmsender.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqplugin.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqres.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqudpgetfilelib.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\qqzip.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\riched20.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\riched32.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\sharefiles.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\vcodec.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\vcodec2.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\videodevice.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\vphone.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\vqqallinone.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\vqqdvcapture.dll
C:\Program Files\tencent\qq\vqqset.dll

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
If you can't copy them at once you had to do it with a couple at a time until all the files are copied.

Select also unregister dll before deleting

Click the red-and-white Delete File button.
Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
Click No at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe.
Then try TheKillbox again.
.

Let the system reboot.

Step 4:

Please start Hijackthis, click on do a system scan only and checkmark the next items:

The QQ program is a instant messenger program thats popular in asian countries. i use it to keep in touch with friends there. is it necessary to remove it?

the program freezing and windows shutting down slow problem seems to have been fixed by configuring norton.

the only problem left is the 1 where i have to try twice to power up my computer. i would press the power button when the computer is turned off, the lights would flicker and the fans would come on, but the monitor is blank and nothing happends. i have to turn off the computer by holding the power button for about 5 seconds. then i would press the power button again within about 20 seconds and the computer would start up normally.

this isnt really a problem as more of an annoyance.

i thank you for helping me with the software problems, but guessing from a amature point of view i think its a hardware problem because there is no beep from the computer when it starts up.

id appreciate further advice

Thank You!

Hi xxfntmxx,

I'm glad to hear that you're software problems are over..... :tazz:

If you like to keep the QQ program you can do that, I based my fix on the fact that Tencent QQ is connect with Adware, see the following link:
http://www3.ca.com/s...px?id=453083549.

About your other problem, have you checked your monitor cable????
It also could be a driver problem.
You can check this out with a program called Everest, it's a (freeware) hardware diagnostics and memory benchmarking solution.
Download Everest Here.

I like to see a fresh logfile of HijackThis for extra control.... :)

Kindly regards,
Thunderball.

Hi xxfntmxx,

Youre log looks clean to me.... :tazz:

When you start Everest and go to Menu > Computer > Summary, you can see all the essentional information from your computer, if something is wrong you will see an indication and solution at the lower part of the page.
Also you can investigate what kind of motherboard, memory, monitor, videocard installed software etc is running with your computer.

Some prevention tips

Please visit Windows update and download all the critical updates for Windows, and its subsequent updates and the latest version of Internet Explorer.
Doing this can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer

Update Your Antivirus Software
It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish).
If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Online virusscans:
Even if you do have antivirus software it can be compromised and corrupted by many forms of malware, so an online scan is a good idea.
Housecall
Panda ActiveScan

To reduce re-infection potential for spyware or malware infections in the future, I recommend you to install these freeware products:
Spywareblaster
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

Spywareguard
SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

IESpyad
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

To scan your system regulary for spyware and malware:
AdAware SE 1.06
You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Spybot Search & Destroy
Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Keep Internet Explorer and XP up to date with with the latest patches from Microsoft.
To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update.

Kindly regards,
Thunderball.

Hi xxfntmxx,

I'm glad to hear that the most problems are solved, about your power up problem I think you better can start a topic in the hardware section.
Hardware, Components and Perpherals.

How the pc-cillin internet security is compared to norton internet security depends on what the user wants and I really can't tell you.
Maybe you can look here for some reviews:
