Hey guys, I wasn't sure if I should start a new topic or try to solve my problem with one of the other guy's fixes. winfixer popups have been going on for months now. Then I just noticed today that something is blocking my LiveUpdate for Symantec's virus scanner. I've got it set to auto-update, so I never really check to see if it's working, I happened to today and it is not. Wondered if the problems might be related? Thanks very much for any help given! Here's my hijack this log:

Hi AHoyt and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C044AAD-7955-4cbd-8175-501A165C4E5D} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dat (file missing)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8E13DDE1-E013-47ec-9C4C-27C2F78BDD26} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dll (file missing)

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\Registration\odbcutil.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: odbcutil - C:\WINDOWS\Registration\odbcutil.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: req - C:\WINDOWS\system32\req.dll (file missing)
  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

I haven't downloaded the other two programs yet, but I figured I should post my logs. I haven't seen a winfixer popup in a while, which is a good sign, but my liveUpdate is still not working. The last virus definition file I got was on the 27th of july, so something's definitely blocking it. Thanks again for the help! Here're the logs:

OK,if after installing the Hosts File,Norton still doesnt work, you are going to have to Uninstall and Reinstall it!

I know this from personal experience, beings I have NIS installed on this PC!

Download CCleaner:
http://www.filehippo...d_ccleaner.html

I wanna be sure nothing is hiding from us,so Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

After restarting in Safe Mode,Configure Windows to Show All Hidden Files and Folders Here is a link to help with that:
http://www.bleepingc...showtutorial=62

Locate and Delete

C:\WINDOWS\smdat32a.sys<- File

C:\PROGRAM FILES\MyWay<- Folder

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\GAIN<- Folder

Now Open and Run CCleaner-> Click the Run Cleaner Tab and let it do its thing!

Now for a visual temp file cleaning!

Delete files/folder from the following directories (But not the directory itself, for example delete all files/folder IN temp; but not temp itself!)

C:\Temp

C:\Windows\Temp

C:\Windows\System32\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew Hoyt\Local Settings\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp

Empty your "Recycle Bin"

Open Internet Explorer,
Select Tools,
Select Internet Options
Select Delete Cookies and Delete Files(Check the box for Delete all offline content)

Go to Start,
Select All Programs
Select Accessories
Select System Tools
Select and Run Disk Cleanup(Make sure that all boxes are checked for cleaning!!)

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Restart back in Normal Mode!

Post back with the report from WinPFind!

Did everything you'd suggested, haven't seen winFixer in a long while! yay!!! My liveUpdate still doesn't work though :tazz:. I was wondering if there was maybe a configuration setting for the symantec server that may have gone missing or got corrupted? I couldn't find any such thing, but I'm running out of ideas as to why it's not working. Perhaps a router problem...although it's worked before on this router. I dunno, maybe it's not malware blocking it, but some other issue? Let me know what you think and thanks very much for your help! Here's the winPFind log as requested:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Here's the new winPFind log. Still no change with liveUpdate though.

Uninstall and Reinstall Norton!

I have had to do this before once the Software became corrupted!
