lost start bar and icons on the desktop

Hi,

I had been battling the aurora and I tried to follow steps to remove it. All of the sudden my desktop icons were lost and I have no start button or the bar where the time and some small icons are. my right click is not working
Upon startup after I click on the user name I have my documents folder opened, but nothing else.
Can I restore it without reinstalling windows, or am I doomed for the format. This comp is vital for me as I have my research there. I backed up the files but reinstalling all the programs I have would be a hard task.
I will wait patiently for the solution :tazz:
