Welcome to Geeks to Go!

First, Download LSPFix.exe to a convenient location. Do NOT run this program. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing NewDotNet.

To Get rid of NewDotNet, go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains (anything that says New.Net)

If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: NewDotNet Removal Procedure 4.

In the event that you lose Internet access after removing New.Net, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish>>" then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the program. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

I removed NewDotNet but I still keep coming up with DSO Exploit in Spybot. How can I get rid of it? Spybot says it deletes it but it doesn't because every time I run Spybot it appears. Thank you for your help.

Also Trojan.ByteVerify keeps trying to infect my computer? What is that?

I didn't say that would take care of it, that was just the first step to ensure you will not have problems with your Internet connection due to New.Net :tazz:

I've got a few questions for you...what version is your SpyBot? Do you have anything disabled in msconfig? How old is your Norton and are you having any problems with auto-protect?

Oh, Okay, thank you. Here are the answers to your questions:

I am running Spybot S&D 1.3--last detection update 8-19-05
I have attached a "print screen" of my MSCONFIG startup.
I am runnning Symantec 9.0.3.1000 --last update of virus defs 8/23/05
I am not having any problem with Symantec autodetect. It does pop up whenever I remove bad stuff from the add/remove programs. Usually within a minute of removing something I'll get a window from Symantec saying it has stopped Trojan.ByteVerify.

Thank you for your help.

First, I need you to go into msconfig and enable normal startup.
Then I need you to go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove:

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3

After it's been removed, Reboot your computer, then download the latest version of Spybot (1.4):

Go HERE and click "Download Now"

Post a new HiJackThis log.

Please follow all of my instructions. I need you to go into msconfig and enable normal startup, which means, I want everything under startup checked and loading. Then reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.

Did you download the latest version of SpyBot?

Dear Michelle,

I did download the latest version of Spybot and ran it and it seemed to remove DSO Exploit. I've attached a copy of MSCONFIG (General Tab, and Startup Tab). I've also copied my Hijack This log.

Please let me know if there is anything else I should do.

Why did you fix items in HiJackThis? I wanted normal startup with everything showing so that I could see what was there for a reason. Please do not fix anything else in HiJackThis unless instructed.

Copy everything inside the code box below and paste it into Notepad. Go up to File > Save As, then click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as remserv.bat on your desktop.

@echo off
sc stop IntranetService
sc delete IntranetService
Double-click remserv.bat

Run HiJackThis. Place a check next to these items and click FIX CHECKED:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.accoona.c...mpaign=wdz0605a
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.accoona.c...mpaign=wdz0605a
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.accoona.com/search?q=%s
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Close HiJackThis.

Then make sure this file is gone, if not delete it:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\intranet.exe

download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, if it does go ahead and reboot.

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log.

Michelle,

I did everything, do you think my computer is clean now? I ran Spybot and after it finished I received this window: Should I be concerned? It pops up quite often.

Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan
Event: Threat Found!
Threat: Trojan.ByteVerify
File: C:\DOCUME~1\Feldmans\LOCALS~1\Temp\AAWTMP\C269640\2AF702\javainstaller\InstallerApplet.class
Location: C:\DOCUME~1\Feldmans\LOCALS~1\Temp\AAWTMP\C269640\2AF702\javainstaller
Computer: DENCOMPUTER
User: Feldmans
Action taken: Delete succeeded : Access denied
Date found: Monday, August 29, 2005 9:43:49 AM

Also, one more question. I have this entry in my MSCONFIG, Startup tab:
dumprep 0 -k %Systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer...

It is also in the HiJack This Log. (under 04 below) Do I need it? Can I completely erase it from the startup tab in MSCONFIG? Would you be able to tell me how.

Thank you so much for everything. You are very knowledgable.

Laura

That is a completely legitimate entry for XP. It is, however, optional if you would like to remove it from startup. Let me know :tazz:

We will clear Java cache to get rid of the items found by ActiveScan.

1. Click Start > Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Java icon (coffee cup) in the control panel. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon - please find the update button or tab in that Java control panel. Update your Java, and reboot.

After reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java icon.

3. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.

There are three options on this window to clear the cache - leave ALL 3 checked.
1. Downloaded Applets
2. Downloaded Applications
3. Other Files

4. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window.
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.

5. Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Hi Michelle,

I did the Java stuff. Here is the latest run of Activescan

Incident Status Location

Spyware:Spyware/Cydoor No disinfected C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Dummies\dummy.cd_clint.dll
Possible Virus. No disinfected C:\Program Files\TDS3\dcsres.exe

I would like to know how to delete entries in the startupfolder of MSCONFIG please. I don't want the AIM to automatically turn on when the computer comes on and I would like to get rid of the UBIsoft registration. I know I could just uncheck them but how do I erase them out of there?

Laura

p.s. what is that trojan.byteverify in Symantec autoprotect and why does it keep coming up?

I can't believe how much junk has been on my computer.
