Guys

I seem to have tried everything to get rid of rdriv.sys and have failed. I have symantec antivirus installed and after reading your recommendations, have installed ewido and hijack this, trojan hunter and trojan remover. I notice my broadband connection sent/received are very high despite no browsing. Please can you help me.

Many thanks
Neil

Hi NeilMartin1965

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Important Step
Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:
Msdn Update 32 (msdnupdate32)
Mouse Button Monitor (mousebm)
When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New Csnm Manager] csmn.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [New Csnm Manager] csmn.exe
O23 - Service: Mouse Button Monitor (mousebm) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\mousebm.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Msdn Update 32 (msdnupdate32) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\msdnupdate32

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
csmn.exe<--Delete this file
C:\WINNT\system32\mousebm.exe<--Delete this file
C:\WINNT\msdnupdate32<--Delete the whole folder
Exit Explorer.

Reboot as normal

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://enterprises.p...l_companies.htm
Please post the log From Panda virus scan. We will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Run HijackThis and post the new log.

Hi KC, Thanks for your advice and help. Please find below the Panda Virus Scan Log File and the Hijack this log. (I did delete csmn.exe as you advised but it seems to have come back on this log. Other things to note whilst I was following the instructions were
1. Couldnt stop Msdn Update 32 from services.msc as that option was greyed out
2. 023 - Service:Mouse Button......was not present on Hijack This to fix
3. 023 - Service:Msdn Update 32....was not present on Hijack This to fix
4. When using windows explorer to delete, msdnupdate wasa file not a folder.

Hi NeilMartin1965

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please download and install AD-Aware se.
Click Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first. Don't run yet.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop. We may need it later.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Run Ewido full scan. Save the scan.log and post the log.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an check in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [New Csnm Manager] csmn.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [New Csnm Manager] csmn.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Run Ad-aware se let it remove all it finds

Use windows explorer delete the following file's and folder's
C:\WINNT\system32\wbev<--Delete the whole folder
C:\WINNT\Temp<--Delete all file's in this folder Please do not delete the temp folder

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure all are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer (Yes.)
C:\WINNT\system32\csmn.exe
C:\WINNT\csmn.exe

Let the system reboot as normal.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://enterprises.p...l_companies.htm
Please post the log From Panda virus scan. We will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Run HijackThis and post the new log.

Hi NeilMartin1965

I will leave this topic open, run a full scan with all the tools we used in this topic.

Just run them when you have time post any problems you have back

You did a great job in removing the malware we just need to give it a few days just to make sure you don't get reinfected

KC,

I cant thank you enough for the guidance you have given. I really appreciate you taking the time.

The only thing I seem to get now is a pop up from time to time from my Symantec system telling me that W32.IRCBot.Gen was present and the system deleted it ! Is this normal ?

Many thanks
Neil

Kc,

My Symantec found nothing suspicious during a full scan. However I still get Symantec Pop-Ups telling me that W32.IRCBot.Gen found discovered in WINNT/SYSTEM32/.exe and that it was unable to be cleaned but successfully deleted. It seems that this .exe file keeps coming back and symantec keeps deleting it ? Is that normal

Thanks and best regards
Neil

Hi Kc,

It seems that when I try and scan using Trend Micro House Call, I get an installation error regarding a Windows Installer not loaded correctly or in safe mode. I have never had this error in the past!!!!

Thx
Neil
