Hello, im asking for help regaurding something that added itself to my computer that is a warning about a need for spyware and malware protection. I cannot do anything to get rid of it. I can no longer do anything with my active desktop because right clicking doesn't yield, "my active desktop" as an option. I saw another topic similar to this one, but that person seemed to have many other problems/viruses going on and his prescribed remedy wouldn't have worked for me. I am not computer savvy at all. I barely understand what my "start up" bar is. The most i have done is download the, "hijackthis.exe." and run a scan which i saved. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

also iT seems to not have done anything extremely harmful to my computer so far. I can still browse the web, and open my applications, but my download speeds are suffering (not sure if its related), and its just really frustrating to not be in control of whats goin on on my computer. Im brand new to this site, so im not sure how long it takes to get a reply, but i hope it can be soon. Thank you.

Click here to download HijackThis by Merijn Bellekom. Doubleclick the file, click Unzip and extract the application to C:\HijackThis. Run it from there to scan your computer.

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All and post it here for examination. Don't fix anything yet as most of what it lists will be harmless.

We'll use some clean-up tools first - if you already have any of these and you are sure they are the latest version then just skip and move on to the next one.

Click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy v1.4 - install, update, scan and fix all RED items it finds. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file.
  • Click "Start"
  • Select "Perform Full System scan"
  • Click "Next" to start the scan.
When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found.
  • Click "Next". The bad files will be listed.
  • Right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side.
  • Click "Next" again
  • Click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
Reboot when done.

Click here to download Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta, check for updates and run it. Reboot when done.

Click here to download ewido security suite - it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido. Then:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin (do not open any folders or open the windows control panel while the scan is in progress).
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here together with the ewido log so that any remnants can be removed manually.

I am concerned about the results of the ewido search. Before it can remove several items, it tells me that it cannot remove it because it is embedded in something else, and i don;t know wether i need the larger file where it is embedded. so far i have been going with the assumption that removing the whole archive is the correct choice but i want to be sure. would it suggest to me that i remove an archive that i would need?

It means it's contained in a zip file or similar. Don't remove the archive just yet - it will show up in your log and we can decide what to do with it later.

This is the latest hijack this. After completing the ewido scan it began asking me about removing archives and such and i was allowing it up until it froze, so i never got to do the log for that particular scan. since then when i click on the ewido icon it doesn't work. It shows a tab at the bottom but clicking it only tells me that the program is not responding. This morning I got back control of my desktop and there doesn't seem to be any trace left of the PS gaurd thing, is there anything else i need to worry about based on the logfile?

You are a long way from clean yet. Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded. Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.websearch...spx?tb_id=50141
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch...spx?tb_id=50141
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5EC02AF0-BB45-E895-6007-983C622DE0C9} - C:\WINNT\system32\xbh.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p2pnetwork] p2pnetwork.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IE Runtimes] winis.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdate] C:\Program Files\winupdate\winupdate.exe /auto
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [p2pnetwork] p2pnetwork.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [IE Runtimes] winis.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Qzc] C:\WINNT\system32\t?skmgr.exe

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://ny.contentmatch.net (HKLM)

Exit HijackThis when done. Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 after the BIOS has loaded. Using Windows Explorer, find and delete the following:

C:\Program Files\winupdate <-- folder
C:\WINNT\system32\winis.exe
C:\WINNT\rdglyqp.exe
C:\Program Files\scur <-- folder

Exit Explorer and reboot into Normal Mode. Rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here.

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.

Select the Delete on reboot option.

In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:

C:\Program Files\Ncodxl\Ufpypnc.exe

It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button. Instead, copy and paste the following and click the 'Delete File' button again:

C:\WINNT\rdglyqp.exe

When it prompts you to reboot this time, press the YES button.

After restarting, with only HijackThis running, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nyvahx] C:\Program Files\Ncodxl\Ufpypnc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ldcGc] C:\WINNT\rdglyqp.exe

Reboot again when done, rescan with HJT and post a new log here

I got as far as confirming when it asked me to reboot now, then it said it was going to start checking registry entries or something. and then i got this message: PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by external process!

i tried to redo it several times but got the same message. and it just stops there.
