Hi there, I certainly hope you can help me. I've always been able to fix these things myself, but a lot of adware snuck on my computer when I accidentally added pogo.com to my "Trusted Sites" lists and a couple of adwares programs came with it. Its so bad that when i accidentally left my computer on overnight my windows had been reset and I had to run system restore. I went through the presteps and even the steps of someone with a similar problem on the site, but I can't clear it up myself, I need help. 4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

• Run HijackThis
  
• Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  
• POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

You have the latest version of VX2.

• Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
  
  http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
  http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe
  
  
• Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  
• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then OPEN the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #"1" for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter.
  
• This will scan your computer and it may appear as if nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log.
  
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

• From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing "2" and then pressing ENTER.
  
• Then press any key to reboot your computer.
  
• After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer.
  
• When it's finished, Notepad will open with a log.
  
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

1. Download the .exe format of Cleanup by Steven Gould from :HERE

• A window will open and choose SAVE, then DESKTOP as the destination.
  
• On your Desktop, click on Cleanup40.exe icon.
  
• Then, click RUN and place a checkmark beside "I Agree"
  
• Then click NEXT followed by START and OK.
  
• A window will appear with many choices, keep all the defaults as set when the Slide Bar to the left is set to Standard Quality.
  
• Click OK
  
• Finally click "CleanUp"

The program with probably ask you to reboot. If it doesn't, then REBOOT your system yourself.



2. Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!

• Download WinPFind
  • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
  • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
  • Dont do anything with it yet!
• Download Trackgoo
  • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop

Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe

• Click "Start Scan"
• It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
• Once the Scan is Complete
• Go to the WinPFind folder
• Locate WinPFind.txt
• Place those results in the next post!

Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up. Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

• As you Paste each entry into Killbox, place a check beside any of these Selections available:

  • "Unregister .dll before Deleting"
• Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete!
  
  
• REBOOT in Safe Mode and Run those files through Killbox once more to be sure nothing survived.
  
  *This time place a checkmark by any of these selections available:
  • "Standard File Kill"
  • "End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
  • "Unregister .dll before Deleting"

4. Now Locate and DoubleClick KillQoo.reg-> Allow it to merge into the Registry!

5. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

6. REBOOT back in Normal Mode

I'll explain briefly but can't continue until I get back home.

Your system was wall-to-wall infections. Some of these infections are more serious than others and , by their nature, open the door for other infections. I start off with, when possible, by cleaning off some of the ffringe baddies, working myself to a point where it is possible to more easily treat Qoologic infection. This is what we just did.

We are left with Aurora/Nail with DrSearch and the epolvy trojan in addition to some minor trojans to take care of. This is where you do not want other junk in the way. I hope this explanation satisfies your curiosity? Nail sticks right out and eveyone can see it glaring at them from post to post but how many notice the dammage that VX2 and Qoologic are causing, not to speak of Elitum and so on?

Alright, I understand you, I figured that what was happening was a step by step working down and that we'd get to those others later. I have seen the names qoologic and VX2 in my Norton scans before, but they are not something where the file names stick out glaringly like nail has come to.
I know this thing was wall to wall infections, the thing is I haven't had any problems with it for a long time, and its all from that one mistake where something went on my trusted sites list. It's amazing how quickly these things can rush in when theres just one chink in the armor. Oh well, as long as I get it cleared up I don't think this will happen again, my protection has gotten most of the problems before. Thanks for the explanation,

1. Download ewido security suite (it is a free version of the program).

• Install ewido security suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
• Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
• The program will now open to the main screen.
• When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  
• You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  (the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
• Exit ewido.
• DO NOT RUN IT YET.

NOTE:If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

2. Download CleanUp

• Install the program
• DO NOT RUN IT YET

3. Download this file: Nailfix Utility

• Save it to your desktop.
• DO NOT RUN IT YET

4. Download dsrfix.zip

• Save it to your desktop.
• Unzip dsrfix.zip and extract it to your desktop.
• This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix.
• DO NOT USE IT YET.

5. Download APT

• Unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.
• Open the folder you just created and click on apt.exe
• Search in the window for <<C:\WINDOWS\system32\yvlrskc.exe >>.
• Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for <<yvlrskc.exe >>.
  NOTE:Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.
• In APT again, Select << C:\WINDOWS\system32\yvlrskc.exe>> and Click Kill3
  
• Then immediately delete <<yvlrskc.exe >> from your system32 folder.
• Close APT.

6. REBOOT into SafeMode. With Windows XP, you can follow these steps from Microsoft

OR

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, start tapping press F8 key.
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

7. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.

• Click "Next" in the setup
• Make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked
• Click "Finish"
• Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

8. Open ewido and do a scan of your system.

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
• Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close all open windows except for HJT, then click the Fix Checked button and EXIT HJT.

10. Open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.

• Double-Click on dsrfix.bat
• A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

11. Enable show hidden files and folders:

• Click Start.
• Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• Select the View Tab.
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
• Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK

12. Now using Windows Explorer (Windows key + E) locate and DELETE the following files and folders (with all their content), if they are still present.

13. Now run the CleanUp program:

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

• Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
• When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
• Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
• Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Delete Cookies
    This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
• Click OK
• Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
• When asked to reboot system select No
• Close CleanUp

14. REBOOT your computer back into Normal Mode

15. Run HJT, SCAN and post a new HJT log, as well as the ewido report log from the Ewido scan by using Add Reply
