Dear GeeksToGo friends,

I happen to have this "nice" spyware on my computer too, and I have to admit that it has become increasingly annoying for my everyday Net surfing!

If by any chance any of you has time and patience in order to help me to get rid of these annoying, fake-scan Winfixer pop-ups, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks by advance!

Pascal

Hi Welaczek and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

That appears to be the Look2me Infection,so please download the l2mfix from here
http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
or
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.

Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until I ask you to.

If you recieve any error messages for CMD or Autoexec.bat>> Select Option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the Site,Click on the link that apply to your Operating System!

Double Click the file it downloads and Extract the files to its predetermined System32 folder!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer.

After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

After posting those 2 logs, proceed with the Instructions below!

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Download and Install
CleanUp!
Dont use it yet!

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Run Cleanup, when prompted to log off>> Select No

Scan the PC with Ewido just as described in the link-> Clean everthing it finds and make sure to Save the Report

Scan the System with Ad Aware, remove everything it finds and delete all quaratine files!

Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab
Make Sure Normal Startup is Checked!!

Click Apply>>OK>>Follow the Prompts to Restart!!

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work!

Save the Report it generates

Download the Hoster from here:
http://www.funkytoad...load/hoster.zip
Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK"!
Exit Program!

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from Ewido and Panda!

Hi Cretemonster,

Here is my first l2mfix log, along with a new Hijackthis log.

I'm now jumping on Ewido and Ad-Aware.

Thanks!

OK,now we are getting there!

I will need you to translate some things but I can tell you by what I see,you need to wipe out all your old emails from the appropriate locations!

Go to Add\Remove Programs and Remove

MyWay

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {44240BB5-BD7D-4D49-A1AA-8AB0F3D3CB44} - C:\WINDOWS\mceula.dll

    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.allmusic.com

    O16 - DPF: {39B0684F-D7BF-4743-B050-FDC3F48F7E3B} (FilePlanet Download Control Class) - http://www.fileplane...DC_1_0_0_44.cab

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: mceula - C:\WINDOWS\mceula.dll
  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Now Copy the text in the Code Box to Notepad and Save it to your desktop as rem.reg but dont run it just yet!

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\INTERNET SETTINGS\USER AGENT]

Restart in Safe Mode and be sure Windows is Showing Hidden Files!
http://www.bleepingc...ut62.html#winxp

Locate and Delete if found

C:\WINDOWS\dpusys.ini<- File

C:\WINDOWS\smdat32a.sys<- File

C:\PROGRAM FILES\MyWay<- Folder

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

Hi Cretemonster,

Indeed, the Winfixer 2005 pop-up has completely disappeared. And my computer boots a little bit faster now! I owe you a lot!

I don't want to claim victory too fast, so I'm posting that last WinPFind log...

Best,
Pascal

Hi Cretemonster,

At this point everything works perfectly: Winfixer ads have completey disappeared, and things run faster!

Thank you a lot!

Just a footnote: what should I do with the rem.reg file I left on the desktop?

Best,
Pascal
