I recently followed your instructions for removal of malware and after I completed that I noticed a couple strange entries in my C:\ drive. They are 1.exe and asdf.exe . Anyone know what these are and if it's safe to remove them?

asdf.exe may very well be a keylogger (someone is recording your key strokes)

It is not a windows file, but you may opt to rename them 1.bak, and asdf.bak and then reboot to see if you get an errors before removing them completely
