Heya and welcome to Geeks to Go, larryled. My name is Guse and I'll be helping you.

I can definitely help you, but first you need to help me. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and then run me another HijackThis log and post it here in a new response.

Thanks for your help. The link you provided didn't work. I went to Microsoft and searched for the download you wanted. I got that one and evidently 17 others! I have yet another problem (may be part of the same one) - now a command prompt type screen pops up and it has a cursor dashing all over the place and at the top says: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WINCTR-1.EXE

I scanned the computer as you requested and here is the log:

Alright, I need you to do something really quick.

Go to HowToTell.com and click the Validate Now button.

Just report back here what it says.

It says that my version is not valid but it's what came on the PC when I bought it from Dell. I did the same thing on my laptop and it's OK. Unfortunately, since I just moved I can't find any XP disks anywhere - now what are my options?

I understand that it may not be your fault, but we simply cannot help anyone who does not have a legitmate copy of Windows here at GeeksToGo. It is a strict board policy, and one we do not waver on. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Good luck to you.
