I have an external laptop that my inspiron 8600 wont recognize but I think that every other laptop/Desktop I have put it in has recognized it. Any help???

start > run
devmgmt.msc
<enter>

grab your windows cd just in case you need it (you should not)

Disconnect any usb devices

drop down to USB and remove all host controllers and root hubs.

reboot...windows will rededect and install device drivers....wait, it might take a minute or two to install them all depending on system. Reboot

plug in the drive now.
