Here are the last two logs requested:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Oh boy! I think it's coming back. I will post the three logs you requested below, but first here's what happened this morning.

I got through everything up to the F-Secure scan o.k. When I went to run that, I couldn't because IE said it was missing wininet.dll. In the \windows\windows update setup files folder, I saw ie6setup.exe dated 8/23/05 and figured it must be the update I'd tried to download a few days ago so I ran it. It said I already had a newer version so didn't [apparently] do anything, but all of a sudden IE "worked".

I ran F-secure scan and it found 9 things, but I couldn't see a way to save the report and, in fact, couldn't seem to copy and paste it. Here's what I jotted down:

win32.agent.pb, win32.shopinst.exe, win32.qoologic.ac, win32.carcaoc.exe, win32.kp4kpd.exe

I just looked in windows\system32 folder and see that there is a wininet.dll dated 8/23/05.

I'm going to run Cleanup to dump the IE temp files, but I'm not going to turn the computer off until further instructions. And boy, am I sorry if I screwed things up by trying the IE update. I'm a programmer and get really frustrated when my users don't follow my directions when trying to debug something.

Here are the WinPFind and l2mfix logs...

And after running Cleanup, I ran F-Secure once again. It came up with these four:

c:\Documents and Settings\06ebishop\shopinst.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\carcaoc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kp4kpd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shopinst.exe

I'm not getting any pop-up ads so I'm hoping these haven't actually re-installed. I have not rebooted since trying the IE update as I described above and then running F-Secure and lm2fix, option 1 as stated several messages back.

I think real progress has been made. I used KillBox on the files you posted. I installed Spyware Blaster. I ran hoster again and installed the HOSTS. I'd already turned off System Restore.

I reran the following, all of which came up clean: Ewido, Ad-aware, Spybot.

I did Cleanup a couple of times.

I finally ran Panda which came up with the following:

Incident Status Location

Adware:adware/elitebar No disinfected C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\06EBISHOP\FAVORITES\Finances & Business
Adware:adware/delfinmedia No disinfected C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\vidctrl
Spyware:spyware/surfsidekick No disinfected Windows Registry
Adware:Adware/PsGuard No disinfected C:\!Submit\Desktop.htt

I also am wondering about these programs listed in Add/Remove Software: IE Host R3, Select CashBack, Logger Pro, snss.

Do you know what this one might be: C:\Documents and Settings\06ebishop\setup2126.exe (it's dated 8/24/05 and maybe something I downloaded in this process but I can't remember anything by that name.)

Also, I don't recognize these in c:\windows\system32 folder: bthserv0.exe, moutcpip.exe, MRT.exe exiixy.exe.

Thanks for your continued help.

Now thats the best news I have heard all moring!! :tazz:

All those you listed from Add\Remove can be removed!

Go ahead and Delete these

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\06EBISHOP\FAVORITES\Finances & Business

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\vidctrl

C:\!Submit<- Killbox folder!!

C:\Documents and Settings\06ebishop\setup2126.exe<- Just a Setup file for something you may have installed!

MRT.exe<- Malicious Software Removal Tool
http://www.liutiliti...esslibrary/mrt/

I nor google, msn or yahoo have never heard of any of these!

bthserv0.exe

moutcpip.exe

exiixy.exe

Please have all those scanned at the 2 sites below!

http://virusscan.jotti.org/
and
http://www.virustota...h/index_en.html

Also, right click each and select properties and see if you can associate them with anything installed in the PC!

Look for the Company Name and see if you notice it!

If the scan shows one as nasty, you know what to do!

If you have any leftover that you are just unsure about, move the file from the system32 folder to My Documents folder!

Make sure the one in the system32 folder is gone and safely tucked away in My Documents and restart the PC!

If you dont get any errors and all you software works, then id say they are some sort of leftovers!

Post back and let me know what ya find out!

I followed through on most of your last suggestions.

I ran the 3 questionable files through virusscan.jotti.org which indicated a possible problem with the latter two so I ended up moving moutcpip.exe and exiixy.exe (and about a dozen other files with "exiixy" in the file name) to the My Documents folder which seems to have caused no problems. I think maybe the bthserv0.exe is something to do with Bluetooth... at least that what turned up when I googled "bthserv". Will leave it for now.

When I tried www.virustotal.com, it seemed to get hung up (probably just busy but no good indication) so I didn't wait.

I do continue to get 2 "spyware" detected when I run Panda. One is "maxifiles" in the Registry. The other is the Elite Toolbar in C:\windows\etb. I'm wondering if I can just delete that.

Yes,please delete that folder!

Dont forget those files are in My Documents!

Here is a good Registry Cleaner

Last lets get a hefty Reg Cleaner and move out all dead registry entries!

RegSupreme Pro 1.1.0.32
http://majorgeeks.co..._Pro_d4256.html

Once downloaded and launched,Click Yes to Update the Cache-> Click "Registry Cleaner"-> Click "Aggresive" and "Start"-> Fix everything it finds-> Name the Backup it creates and Save it somewhere safe!

See if that doesnt settle Panda Down!

I was sure I was going to be writing tonight to say that everything was good to go.

Alas, after I did the registry clean, I ran Panda again and here's what it came up with:

Adware:adware/apropos No disinfected Windows Registry
Spyware:Spyware/BargainBuddy No disinfected C:\!Submit\xml\images\casino.bmp
Spyware:Spyware/BargainBuddy No disinfected C:\!Submit\xml\images\dating.bmp
Spyware:Spyware/BargainBuddy No disinfected C:\!Submit\xml\images\drugs.bmp
Spyware:Spyware/BargainBuddy No disinfected C:\!Submit\xml\images\virus.bmp

That [bleep] !Submit folder is back and now BargainBuddy is in the registry.

What next? There must be something really well hidden.

I am attaching a Zip folder to this post!

Download and Unzip, inside you will find a reg file to clear out all possible Apros entries!

Just Double Click and Allow it to merge into the registry!

The !Submit folder is from Pocket Killbox and can be deleted at your convience!

If System Restore is still disabled,go ahead and Renable it and Restart the PC!

That should have you all fixed up!

Hmm. I can't seem to figure out where the zip file is.

Glad to hear that the !submit file is from Killbox and not something re-emerging.

O.K., I did the merge into the registry. Then I ran all of the spyware programs, and they came up clean. Finally, I ran Panda again and here's what I got:

Incident Status Location

Adware:adware/windowenhancer No disinfected C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SBUtils
Adware:adware/apropos No disinfected Windows Registry

This is getting old. :tazz:
