only 16 colors

HI! I just got a used gateway that is only showing 16 colors. it says it has a pci standard graphics adapter. When it was in the house we got it from it had the 256 colors, but we took everything out and reinstalled windows in it. Can you help me fix this problem.

After the reinstall your pc reverted back to the standard VGA video driver that has limited color. To get the color resolutions back, you simply need to 'reinstall' the video adapter driver. If you have the restoration CD that shipped with the Gateway the drivers are on it. If not you can download the drivers the the video adapter's Web site.
