Hi billjone and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

    O2 - BHO: Band Class - {00F1D395-4744-40f0-A611-980F61AE2C59} - C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: PicShow Class - {4487598C-2EC7-43A2-870E-6D8D720FDD9F} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkshuvks.dll
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttu.dll
    O2 - BHO: ohb - {9ADE0443-2AB2-4B23-A3F8-AC520773DE12} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A491D208-B353-490F-B81A-A8A3DC97042D} - (no file)
    O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - (no file)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssttu - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttu.dll

  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

please do NOT run it yet.

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

I finally did as yo recommended. It appears better. I have not rebooted though.

As I was running the ActiveScan and Ewido, I continue to get viruses/corrupt files. Is something still wrong?

Hi! Everything is looking great :)

Clean out your Email deleted section, you have unopened viruses in there.

Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\Documents and Settings\William Jones\Favorites\1111

Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\kansup.reg

Reboot, and let me know how your computer is running :)

:tazz: :) :) :)  :tazz: :tazz: :) :)

So far, so good!

I really appreciate your help.

One final question (I hope), my McAfee firewall starts enabled and then is disabled after startup. Does this mean that there is still a problem?

Thanks again!

Can you re-enable it after it disables? Is it current and the latest version?

Create a Startup List:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notebook onto your post

The Firewall is up-to-date. I will need to find out whether it is the latest version though. I can enable the Firewall once I see that it was disabled.

Well it's actually a good thing that happened now :tazz:

Ok lets see if we can find that nasty little things.

your desktop

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

REBOOT TO SAFE MODE. This tool MUST be run in safe mode!

Once in safe mode, double click rkfiles.bat file to run it. It will scan for a while, so please be patient. Wait until the DOS window closes. The log file will be C:\log.txt

Reboot back to normal mode and post the contents of log.txt in your next post.

When I ran the file, it didn't do much. Ran for a split second and the window closed down. I attached the "one line" log below:

C:\Documents and Settings\William Jones\Desktop

Does this help?

Download WinPFind and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder.
don't do anything with it yet.

boot into safe mode

Inside c:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.

reboot

Please post the winpfind log

Silent Runners:
  • Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

  • NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
For some time it will look like nothing is happening. Just keep waiting.
  • Once it's done it will create a log. A window will come up telling you when it's saved. Please post that log here
