Hi,

I have had this problem before and went through the usual malware steps, as directed by Excal. It seemed to have removed the problem in the very short term, but despite getting myself a firewall and continuously running recommended malware removal software my browsing is tediously slow despite a broadband connection.

Every now and then my browsing will run smoothly, but soon (and most of the time) it is slow again. I am at a loss. Any help offered would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Fox

Hi,

I have been through the suggested steps a couple of times, but my PC and browsing in particular is slow again - almost constantly.

I can't seem to get a handle on it. The first time I used this forum my connection was better, but soon got tired and now is hopeless. I did upgrade my malware cleaning programmes, run them often and downloaded the suggested firewall....

Would appreciate any help I could get on this one.

:tazz:

ps - I tried posting this once, but did not seem to work.

Excal, my old friend.

I went through the whole Malware process one more time before posting a log just to be sure - this is what took me so long. [bleep] computer is killing me!

So here it is. Good to hear from you again, even if it's just more work for you :tazz:

not suppose to be longer, unless you got alot of bad stuff on your computer....lol

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cd_clint.dll
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "YES".

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if the main link does not work) and install it. Please Do not run yet.

Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Open up and run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan when it ask if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Please post the Ewido Log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

On a web page, click tools, internet options, on general, click delete cookies. delete files and include offline content, click clear history, on advanced, tick empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed, click apply.

Get the trial of Tune Up here

http://www.tune-up.com

Run disc clean up then registry clean up, click optimize and run reg defrag, which needs a reboot, after the reboot, open tune up, click optimize, system optimizer then run optimize the computer, after the reboot, open tune up, click optimize, system optimzation, click accelerate downloads, set it to the nearest one above the speed of your connection.

Run a line speed test for your location

Hi Keith.

Thanks for chiming in on this one.

I have run Tuneup and accerlerated dowloads using the 1.2mb option though my connection speed is only 512k. I did this as you suggested using the speed above my own.

My speed line test tells me I am connecting at 27.1 kbps. Everythingstill seems slow.

Back to you and thanks again.

That isn't correct, you should have a faster line spped

If you can take screen prints and post the results to your ISP tech support, so they can look in to it

If your Prt Scr button produces nothing, download this and set it to capture the active Window, turn off print options and create a folder to save the screen prints to

http://www.provtech....oad/default.asp

It uses the same Prt Scr key and will give you the print

[attachment=3505:attachment]

which you can insert in to the e-mail as well as attaching it

Take screen prints every hour to check it is not related to the contention ratio of your ISP but send every screen print to them

It is likely to be the modem or the cable now

Thanks Keith (and Excal),

It turns out it is my ISP and not spyware/malware. I fired them. At least I now know what to do in the event that I have spyware.

Best,
Mark
