HELP!!!
I continue to get hijacked virtually every time I open IE to hit the web, especially to winfixer. I downloaded and ran HijackThis. The log is below. Please advise.

Please disable Spybot's TeaTimer so that its protective features will not interfere with any changes that we need to make to the Registry.
To disable TeaTimer:
1. Open Spybot
2. Click Mode -> Advanced Mode
3. Click Yes
4. Click Tools (located in the bottom left corner) -> Resident
5. Uncheck 'Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active'
6. Then close Spybot and restart your computer
Do not enable it again until our fix is entirely completed and I have verified that your system is clean.
At that time, reverse these steps and re-enable the protection applets for TeaTimer.

Please move your HijackThis to a permanent folder where it can save backups.
Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations: http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Hello, anybody out there? My first time trying get help through GTG and am unsure how long replies take.

Most replies are handled within 24 hours. Time zones should be taken into consideration, too.
Back to our fix...
Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot. From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log. IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from HERE

Also download KillBox by Option^Explicit from
HERE

Then boot up in SAFE MODE
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key (or F5 on some computers)
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

The rest of this fix must be done in Safe Mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe
In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen.
Click on the Threads tab at the top.
Once you see this screen click on each instance of basav.dll once and then click the kill button.
Also look for any .ini or bak files or other dll's with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well.
(For example: vasab.dll. or vasab.ini or vasab.bak etc.)

After you have killed all of the basav.dll's under winlogon click OK.

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click on each instance of basav.dll once and then click the kill button.
Also look for any .ini or bak files or reverse named dll's with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well
(For example: vasab.dll. or vasab.bak or vasab.ini etc.)
Click on the Threads tab at the top.
Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.

Now run killbox and paste this line into the box, select delete on reboot then press the red X button.
Say yes to the prompt but no to reboot now.

If it says file is missing, or if it says unable to delete then make a note of the file name and let us know when you reply.

Then repeat by typing in the full name of of any of the reverse named .bak or .ini or other files that you discovered earlier.

After you have input the last file name then reboot.

Your log appears to be clean.

Let's do some follow-up cleaning with CCleaner:
Download: CCleaner

Once installed, launch CCleaner:
Do not change any settings, except to make sure on the Options tab>Advanced "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours" is NOT checked.
Click Run Cleaner (bottom right). When finished> Exit (top right) (reboot)

If everything is running well, it would be good to purge the old Restore Points and create a clean one.
To flush the XP System Restore Points:
(Using XP, you must be logged in as Administrator to do this.)
Go to Start>Run and type msconfig Press enter.
When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings Link on the left.
Check the box labeled Turn Off System Restore.

Reboot. Go back in and turn System Restore ON. A new Restore Point will be created.

Here is my standard list of simple steps that you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

You may have already taken some of these steps:
1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

2. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

3. Download and install the following free programs:

Periodically check for updates.

4. Keep your antivirus software and firewall software up to date.

I would check for updates in SpyBot once a week or so.

8. I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

9. After you use Windows XP for some time, the prefetch folder can get full of rarely used or obsolete links which can slow down your computer boot time noticeably. We recommend you delete all files in this folder about once a month.
To find the prefetch folder, enter this in the explorer address bar:
