I've been reading posts in your forum about the rdriv.sys nightmare, thinking I might be able to just follow the steps on my own. But it seems, the steps are unique for each setup.

Thanks for everything that you're doing, guys. Here's my HijackThis log. I've downloaded everything suggested for newcomers and have run them all prior to generating this log. Much obliged.

Hi

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder for it and move the program into the new folder

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O23 - Service: tsecure - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\tsecure.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

[*]Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINDOWS\tsecure.exeExit Explorer.Reboot as normal.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi Mannytec

It is very much needed that you do the online virus scan this is for your own good.

Your HJT.log is clean.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I have been trying to do the online scans as you suggested. They take ages!

Two passes with Panda Activescan and the darn thing seems to quit to desktop after what seemed like forever. Is that a bad sign? Last I looked, both times, the scan indicated 2 so-called suspicious files and one spyware. I've also tried Trend Micro's Homecall. That too reported one Java-related file that it classified as uncleanable. It was in my settings folder and looked like a zipped installer file of some kind from Sun. But when I tried to delete, as recommended, it reported the file as being in use.

Finally, I ran my local anti-virus software (Sophos) which removed 11 infections.

Should I leave it at that?

Thanks again.

Okay, thanks. Will do that. I suspect the Panda system automatically disconnects after a certain period of inactivity to allow for other users. I'll just have to be there when it finishes.

Hey, thanks for everything. Was that all it was? It sounded a lot more complicated when Housecall alerted me :-)

Will try Panda again. It's just that I can't seem to make it go all the way through. Everytime I look back, I see that Explorer has quit, and Panda with it.

Hi, there. The Housecall scan tells me I'm clean. So did a Sophos scan. Haven't tried Panda again, but it looks like I'm clean again (fingers crossed) pending final check of my HJT log below. Thanks a lot :tazz:

Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here

It Prevent's the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox.
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
You can download Sun's newer JVM for Windows at http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html.
http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp Windows (Offline Installation)

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats.

Have a nice Day.

Please download the following programs (and update Ewido), but do not run them yet:

* rdrivRem.zip
  • Unzip it to your desktop.
* Open Ewido Security Suite
  • There should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed
  • After the updates are installed exit Ewido.
* CleanUp!
  • Install it.
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight "Safe Mode" then hit enter.

1.) Please double-click rdrivRem.bat to run the program - follow the instructions on the screen. After it's complete, rdriv.txt will be created in the rdrivRem folder.

2.) Double-click the Ewido Security Suite icon to run the program.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose "remove", then put a check next to "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit Ewido
3.) Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

After Cleanup is finished reboot into normal mode and try running ActiveScan again and post the results from ActiveScan along with a new HiJackThis log please :tazz:
