Welcome to the Geeks To Go forum.:tazz:

Step 1

Configure Windows to Show all hidden files & folders and ensure you're familiar with rebooting into Safe Mode.

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite from here.
Setup the program following the instructions here and update the program with the latest definitions.
Then close it without running a scan. We'll use it in Safe Mode.

Download Nailfix from here.
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Download and install Cleanup! from here to your desktop.

Download dsrfix.zip from here and unzip it to your desktop (you should have a dsrfix folder on the desktop if you've done this correctly).

Download APT and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.

Copy the below steps to notepad, close Internet Explorer and disconnect from the internet.

Step 2

Reboot into Safe Mode and double-click on nailfix.exe.

Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".

Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Step 3

Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Then close Ewido Security Suite.

Step 4

Run HijackThis again and place a check before the following entries (if still present):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {00F1D395-4744-40f0-A611-980F61AE2C59} - C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: SABHO - {21B4ACC4-8874-4AEC-AEAC-F567A249B4D4} - c:\program files\180searchassistant\saaphook.dll
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.media-motor.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.popuppers.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://awbeta.net-nucleus.com (HKLM)
O23 - Service: Windows 32-bit PnP Driver (winpnp32) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\winpnp32.exe (file missing)

Close ALL OPEN WINDOWS except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Step 5

Now open the dsrfix folder on your desktop.

Double-Click on dsrfix.bat

A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Step 6

Now using Windows Explorer find and delete the following files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\file_name <-- File
C:\WINDOWS\folder_name\ <-- Folder

Step 7

Now run CleanUp!.

*IMPORTANT NOTE*

CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Click the Options button.
Make sure only the following are checked:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files (XP only)
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click the Ok button to close the Options dialog.
Click the CleanUp! button to begin cleaning. It may take a while depending on the size of the hard drive so be patient.
When it has finished, close CleanUp! but decline to logoff when prompted.

Step 8

Restart your computer in normal mode and post a fresh HijackThis log and Ewido log.

Hey Bricat! I will try all of this immediately after my classes end for the day and will be sure to post you the new hijack log ASAP. Thank you for your help already, hopefully with a little teamwork I can nip this spyware once and for all!

I completed all the steps you gave me, except the step with deleting the file and the folder from the system 32 folder. I could not find either of those within the system 32 folder so I ended up skipping that step. Here is my new Hijack This log:

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Then :-

Click Start > Run > type services.msc, then click OK
Scroll down and right click on 'Service: Windows 32-bit PnP Driver'
Select 'Properties' and set the "Service Status" option to "Stop"
Set "Startup type" to "Disabled", click Apply, then OK.

Then :-

Step 1

Download Process Explorer from here.

Run Process Explorer and find the following process in the list of processes:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\vrhkmmy.exe r process

Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

Step 2

Then in HijackThis click Config | Misc Tools | Delete a file on reboot.
In the explorer Window select the file C:\WINDOWS\System32\vrhkmmy.exe
When prompted if you want to reboot click YES
Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

Step 3

After the reboot, run HJT and place a checkmark before the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Device] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\00414d6f.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\GameDrvr.exe" /startup "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0500.dll"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [saap] c:\program files\180searchassistant\saap.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wzojmj] C:\WINDOWS\wzojmj.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Internet Optimizer] "C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer\optimize.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [immin] C:\WINDOWS\mm15201518.a.Stub.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SAHBundle] C:\DOCUME~1\Megan\LOCALS~1\Temp\bundle_mediamotor1004.exe run
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WebRebates0] "C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\WebRebates0.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xguwmvy] C:\WINDOWS\System32\vrhkmmy.exe r
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = ?
O4 - Global Startup: Remocon Driver.lnk = ?
O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)
O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)
O23 - Service: Windows 32-bit PnP Driver (winpnp32) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\winpnp32.exe (file missing)

Close ALL OPEN WINDOWS/BROWSERS and click Fix Checked.

Then boot up in SAFE MODE

Then navigate to and delete these files\folders in BOLD

C:\WINDOWS\mm15201518.a.Stub.exe << This file
C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer << This folder
C:\WINDOWS\wzojmj.exe << This file
c:\program files\180searchassistant << This folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vrhkmmy.exe << This file

Then boot up normally.

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Rerun EWIDO in SAFE MODE and save the log.

then reboot and post a fresh Hijackthis log and the log from ewido.

I'm sorry it takes me so long in between each set of directions you give for me to do them and reply but it's a friend's computer and I have to drive over to her apartment after each new step. Some of the days she won't be around and other days I don't have the time to rush over there and try it out, so I'm working as quickly as I possibly can. Anyway, I finished the set of instructions you last gave me athough none of the files / folders you wanted me to delete were anywhere on the computer. I tried locating them manually and through searching in Windows, neither showed up with results. The Microsoft Antispy program had expired so I just went ahead and uninstalled it and threw away the folder from Program Files. Here are my logs after I completed all the steps:

you'll have to go through this once again, the nail.exe and epolvy trojan are still there

just follow the steps one at a time

Step 2

We'll take care of the Epolvy Trojan as it reinstalls Nail.exe on reboot if not removed first.

It's easy to spot in your log. It's the random '04' HKLM entry with an 'r' after the .exe process. In your previous log it was:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: llvqns C:\windows\system32\color=red]myfzlj.exe[/color] r

Take a scan with HijackThis (don't fix anything) and note down the exact name of this file. C:\Windows\System32\random.exe r

(replace random.exe with the file name that is there now)

Now open the APT folder you've just created and click on apt.exe and search in the window for C:\Windows\System32\random.exe

Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for C:\Windows\System32\random.exe

Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.

In APT again, Select C:\Windows\System32\random.exe and Click Kill3

Then immediately delete C:\Windows\System32\random.exe from your system32 folder.

Close APT.

Step 3

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar =
http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [llvqns] C:\WINDOWS\System32\myfzlj.exe r
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner -
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Close ALL OPEN WINDOWS except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Step 5

Now open the dsrfix folder on your desktop.

Double-Click on dsrfix.bat

A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Step 6

Now using Windows Explorer find and delete the following files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe<---if still there.

P.S can you please open notepad, click on FORMAT and remove the checkmark from WORDWRAP. (just click on it)
it makes the logs harder to read.

The text wrap in notepad was already unchecked so I'm not quite sure why it would be coming out all weird. It might be because I emailed the files to myself and copied and pasted them from there. Here are the next logs:

that looks clean now.:tazz:

DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE run your anti virus, when you get the all clear
restart your system restore.(same page).then create a new restore point :-

click START\ALL PROGRAMS\ACCESSORIES\SYSTEM TOOLS\SYSTEM RESTORE. click on "create new restore point"
click on NEXT and follow the prompts.

this is to ensure that if you have to do a system restore in the future that you don't get all the nasties reinstalled again.

Then

Go to TOOLS\INTERNET OPTIONS. and delete all TEMP INTERNET FILES

Download CCLEANER

then run the scan under the windows tab.

then DEFRAG your C:\ drive.

to help speed up your system.

then let us know how the computer is running.

I'll have my friend keep open her internet explorer window for an hour or so and make sure that no other pop ups appear. Thank you SO much for all your patience and the time you took to help me out. I am totally grateful. Keep up the good work because I'm sure there are many more out there like myself that would kill for the same service you gave me!
