Here is the problem I am experiencing
After clicking to open any user account, xp loads very slowly. The background and icons will appear, then icons will disappear and reload 2 or 3 times. After about 5 minutes it will finally load. Then if you click on any icon it will take about a minute to respond. Loading any program very slowly and in pieces. By pieces I mean as the program comes up you will see the background of xp in parts until it finally loads. My internet connection is also sluggish and experiening the same type of loading problems. Also some odd things have been occuring such as when clicking the go back arrow it will jump back 2 pages instead of one. I have run virus scans, spyware scans and clean up. I have tried system restore and xp repair. Any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

start > run, type
eventvwr.msc
<enter>

Look under systems and applications for items with red Xs that happened at the SAME time as your problem...list them here.[/code]

also, post a hijackthis log (see link in my signature).

If you are infected, I will redirect you, but at first, I just want to see what is running in the background

Report back

-------------------------------------

STEP 2

When you find the error, repeating, you have arrived at the group that is causing the problem.

Leave everything as is and go to the tab with the same name as the one you just re-enabled and uncheck everything you find within the tab....reboot.

Does the probelm recur? If not, check one item and reboot, continuing until you discover the offending application/service

Then report back

Here is what happened.
When I unchecked all four, the computer worked fine on the reboot. No error occurred. So I then began to follow the outlined steps. I noticed the error did not really return when any of the four were loaded individually. I did notice a very slight delay when only startup items was selected and also a very slight delay when only startup services was selected. I again followed the outline, testing them both (separately of course). When I tried each item in startup items, no error occurred. When I tried each item in startup services, no error occurred.
I then tried re-enabling system.ini, win.ini and startup services. Leaving startup items disabled. No error occurred. I then tried re-enabling only system.ini, win.ini and startup items. Again, no error. However, once I re-enable all of them. I am back to square one, with the same error occurring.
