Hello, i am attempting to help a friend. His computer was plagued with pop-ups and such and interent explorer wouldnt open. I immediately tried running lavasofts ad-aware, however once the program was open the computer would shut down and show the blue screen of death. Luckily i was able to use firefox, so i then checked your website, ran spybot, cwshredder, and ewido. This enable me to open IE and install Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition and do a full scan (The program is free from my universtiy). Next I ran Cleanup, and rebooted. Here is my most recent hijackthis log. My most recent ewido log shows no infected objects found. Thank you for your time!

Hello

Welcome! Lets get your computer cleaned up.

Download the Hoster Here
Please do not use program yet

Unzip Hoster to your desktop

Open up the Hoster program.
  • Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
  • Click back up Host files
  • then click Restore orginal host files
  • close program
You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Could you try this again for me

Download the Hoster Here
Please do not use program yet

Unzip Hoster to your desktop

Open up the Hoster program.
  • Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
  • Click back up Host files
  • then click Restore orginal host files
  • close program
Then post a new Hijack log

Thanks

I dont know why it didnt go away either!!! Weird. Computer is running fine, i think. No pop ups, allthough the antivirus progam just poped up to say its quaranting some Hacktool.Rootkick and a deleted a W32.Sbybot.worm, and a bunch of other things. The antivirus poped up after i started running ad-aware. Maybe i shouldnt have started adware :tazz:?? I dont know what this means, hope i didnt just make things worse. :)
