I was installing RAM and I restarted the computer and it went directly into Windows set up and it keeps telling me that I have to re-install Windows.
What do I do?

PS When I press F1 it shows the memory as installed. I also tried reinstalling Windows XP like it said but it says that its already installed and I have to overwrite all the files and when I tried reinstalling it starts it and it tells me that I need to reboot to finish but when I restart it forgets that the download already started.

Get the set which corresponds to the version disc of XP you want to install

It keeps telling me "Error Loading Operrating System" and then it goes it to Windows Setup. Then when I try to install Windows it tells me that it's already installed on my computer and that it's basically a bad idea to to have 2 operating systems.

Does anyone know if maybe I just didn't plug a cord back in right when I putting all the ribbons back in?

I'm trying the bootup disc now I'll post the results.

These boot discs are doing the same thing as before (except slower). I guess I'll know if it worked when it asks for the restart.

I put in disc 3 and it said:

File SETUPREG.HIV could not be loaded.
The error code is 4108.

Setup can not continue. Press any key to exit.


Well... that can't be good. But I still don't see why I have to reinstall Windows... all I did was add a new RAM stick.

I don't get the Error Loading OS error anymore, it now just keeps going into Windows Setup. Does anyone have any idea why I'm having to reinstall windows?

Also, should I be installing it in the C or D drive? I've been doing it in the C drive if that makes any difference.

Try removing the added RAM

If you can install XP then either the RAM was in wrong or unsuitable

When I go to F1 setup is the says the RAM is installed. I took the RAM out and it still prompts me to install XP. I just really want to know why XP isn't loading.... it doesn't make any sense.

Leave the new RAM out, go with installing XP and use the repair option

Ok, I'll try that, but I have one question first.

I had a 256 installed and I bought a 512. Was I supposed to put the 512 where the 256 was and then put the 256 in the other slot?

Should I be going to D:/MININT or C:/WINDOWS?

It is usual to put the largest RAM in slot 1

Hopefully you can install XP with the new RAM out, as this is the only addition you have made.

If you still get errors then check the 256 is installed correctly

If you do install, you may want to swap out the 256 for the 512 on its own to see if XP will load

I pressed 2 (C:\WINDOWS) and now I have a command prompt that says C:\WINDOWS_ what do I type in now?

I couldn't get past this step last time.
