Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Downloads

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop. DO NOT RUN ANYTHING IN THE FOLDER YET

Download nailfix.exe from http://www.noidea.us...050711214630636

Download Process Explorer from http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.html

To begin: Please open Hijack This and click on Scan.
look for any entry in the O4 section that has a lonely " r" at the end. LEAVE HIJACKTHIS OPEN, and note the path to that file

Run Process Explorer and find the file we just found in HijackThis in the list of Processes.
Select the process and click Process > Suspend.
DO NOT CLOSE THIS PROGRAM

Then in HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete a file on reboot...
In the explorer Window Navigate to the file we just found and click Open
When prompted if you want to reboot click YES
Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

Boot Into Safe Mode
Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

View Hidden Files and Folders
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Run Downloaded Program #1
1. Launch Nailfix.exe
2. Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
3. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Run Downloaded Program #2
Run Ewido Security Suite .
Run a full system scan
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop.
Potential Uninstallations
Click > Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs:

TPT Registry_Cleaner

Start HijackThis Fix
Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Open HijackThis, Check and Fix the following entry:
O2 - BHO: Band Class - {00F1D395-4744-40f0-A611-980F61AE2C59} - C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll (file missing)

download my attachment and boot into safe mode, rename it to filefix.bat
now double click on it to run it, and delete it when the dos window closes.

Congratulations Your Log is Clean!!

If you are still having trouble, please dont continue with these instructions just yet. LET ME KNOW!

Otherwise, we have a few clean up items to deal with.

1. System Restore
Now that we know your system is clean, we want to purge any potentially infected restore points. To do that, complete the following:

Turn off System Restore by Clicking Start > right-click My Computer and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab > Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this. Click OK.

To re-enable this function - simply uncheck this same box, and click "apply" and "ok"

2. Reset Hidden Files & Folders

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is UNchecked. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are invisible. CHECK the Hide protected operating system files option.

Preventative Measures

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read How Did I Get Infected In The First Place?.

Also Consider...
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:How is she running now? Any further problems? If not, Good work, and Happy Computing!

Please reply once more so we know you have read these measures.

As If it got MORE infected :tazz:

Please download dsrfix.zip from Atribune and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click on dsrfix.zip and extract it to your desktop.
  • This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix.
  • Do Not open that folder yet.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Close all browsers and open windows except HJT, then click the Fix Checked button. Close HJT.

Now open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.
  • Double-Click on dsrfix.bat
  • A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.
Now reboot your system and post back a new HJT log by using Add Reply

GeekU Lesson 101: Norton IS DEFINETLY an antivirus, in fact she has an antivirus and firewall (which is the same as I have - and works wonderfully)
As for my prior post regarding preventative measure, you definetly want to follow the first set, dont worry about a firewall, and add this to it:

I Highly reccomend making the upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 Since you're junkware free, the time to get it is NOW. Service Pack 2 is a MAJOR upgrade for XP. It is chalk full of security patches and such, as well it comes with a Free Popup Blocker!!!!!

Reply once more, and then i will close the thread :tazz:
