Heres what happened:
Someone downloaded Napster <---- EVIL!
I uninstalled napster, uninstalled the NavExcel toolbar, but this stuff still is going on:
---------
Norton Internet Security wont open.
Norton Internet Security icon isn't there on takbar.
HijackThis will open and allow me to do a system scan if i do it quicklyand boots me off.
It also boots me off of the hijackthis log (.log file).
Every Internet page comes up as "The Page cannot be displayed."
I type msconfig in Run, shuts down auto shortly after it is displayed.
---------
I tried a recovery, but no dice, i also tried repair install with the cd, it repaired but the problem is still there(thats why i have sp1 only...the problem was there with sp2 so i dont think downloading sp2 and junk is going to work).
---------
Here is my HijackThis file (if i go fast enough I can open the .log file, ctrl+a, ctrl+c)

I thank you for any information you can give me.

i forgot to add that this problem is not only with normal boot, but it appears in safe mode boot too.

I did adaware scan and it worked, but didn't get rid of problem.

So recap: no internet, no internet security to scan for viruses, limited use of hijackthis (i'm not fast enough to click fixed on any), no control over what starts at bootup

As far as telus is concerned it is a problem with our computer, not the internet servers.

Hi ancient and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Lets see if we can get this headed in the right direction!

I am going to attach a Zip Folder with a utility called the Itty Bitty Process Manager (IBProcMan)

Unzip and Extract All Files!

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)

After restarting in Safe Mode,Configure Windows to Show All Hidden Files and Folders

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Open the Itty Bitty Process Manager

Kill Process on any of these running

dllhost.exe
csrss.exe
rundll32.exe

Now Open HijackThis and See if it will stay open!

If it wont,Stop there and post back!

Providing you can get HijackThis to Stay Open, locate and Delete this folder

C:\WINDOWS\System32\jbphgtel

You may have to open it up and delete the items inside one at a time until there is nothing left!

Search these folders for csrss.lnk<- Delete if found!

C:\Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

You can also try Windows Search Assistant!

Open the Search Assistant(Click Start>>Click Search)
Select All Files and Folders,
Select Advanced Options,
Make sure there is a check by every box under Advanced Options!

Now under All Files and Folders, enter this into the text box:

csrss.lnk

Back in HijackThis, place a check by these

F3 - REG:win.ini: load=C:\WINDOWS\System32\jbphgtel\csrss.exe

F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\System32\jbphgtel\csrss.exe

O4 - Startup: csrss.lnk = ?

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!!

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log once completed!

Attached Files

Well, thats progress, lets see what else is lurking around in there!

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab
Make Sure Normal Startup is Checked!!

Click Apply>>Close>>Follow the Prompts to Restart!!

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work!

Save the Report it generates

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from WinPFind and Panda!

Explain what you mean about changing folder options?

To Show Hidden Files?

How bout this part?

Search these folders for csrss.lnk<- Delete if found!

csrss.lnk<- Thats the ReInstaller!

C:\Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

How did that go,were you able to locate and delete that file and the folder I specified?

See if you can get this tool downloaded to the PC so we can use it in Safe Mode!
http://www.atribune....llBox_beta_.exe

Download the Hoster from here:
http://www.funkytoad...load/hoster.zip
Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK"!!
Exit Program!

Run it once in Normal Mode and Once when you first boot into Safe Mode!

Copy the Contents in the Code Box to a Blank Notepad page and Save it to your desktop as rem.reg but dont run it just yet!

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Chode]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Chode]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"csrss"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"csrss"=-

Go back into Safe Mode!

Locate and Delete this folder

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gzbginnf

You may have to pick it apart again!

Also look for any other folders with randomly generated names like the one above and make note of the exact name, post anything you find and let me know about it but dont just delete!

If that folder above wont fully delete,Open Pocket Killbox,CopY&Paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\gzbginnfinto it!

Place a tick by Delete on Reboot and Click the Red Circle to Delete!

Let Killbox reboot the PC and go back to Safe Mode again!

Look and See if that folder is gone and a new one wasnt created!

After that, locate and Double Click rem.reg and allow it to merge into the registry!

Restart and Post back, let me know if any progress is noticable!?

When you say it worked, what exactly do you mean?

Is the PC connecting to the Internet?

Also, how are you at navigating the registry?

Go ahead and post theWinPFind log!

What i mean by it worked i mean the file was deleted and didn't come back.
And i tryed the hoster thing and the internet is not fixed, i did it once in normal mode, then safe mode right after.

-----------------------

Before I get to the log, i want to ask you something i've noticed in msconfig that has puzzled me
These are all the startup items:
hpsysdrv
hkcmd
KBD
point32
NeroCheck
qttask
NvCpl <-What is this
nwiz <-What is this
NvMcTray <-What is this
ALCXMNTR <-What is this
ps2 <-What is this
rundll32
msnmsgr
InterVideo WinCinema
Microsoft Office

The funny thing is they all refer to rundll32.exe
Command:
NvCpl - RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
nwiz - nwiz.exe /installquiet /keeploaded /nodetect
**Just by those words it looks suspicious**
NvMcTRay - RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
ALCXMNTR - ALCXMNTR.EXE
ps2 - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ps2.exe
rundll32 - rundll32.exe nview.dll,nViewLoadHook

I guess what I'm wondering is what is nView or Nv

I think it may have been an update from NVIDIA that i downloaded...is there a way to uninstall the update without uninstalling the driver? (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX update)

And one more thing...a few more programs that dont work...it takes about 1/2 hour to get microsoft word going, musicmatchjukebox opens then closes, norton doesn't open, real player opens but program freezes instantly, and still nothing connects to the internet so could it be something attack programs?

OK,first thing we gotta do is figure out if Regedit is working?

Click Start-> Run-> Type in Regedit and Click OK!

If it doesnt work, lets try the Symantec tool first!

Follow the Instructions in this link!
