Hey Guys, I don't want to go into too much detail about my problem, simply put-

Can't change my desktop
Boots are Slower than normal
Can't access safe mode (computer retarts itself when I get to safe login screen)
Resets my taskbar settings everytime, takes off quicklaunch
Sometimes doesn't allow me to click on my taskbar or start menu
Doesn't allow me to load Explorer anymore (luckily I use firefox more)

Among several other windows functions that cripple my machine

I've used several programs, and other fixes, but alas, I think I just need some
professionals to take a gander. Thanks in advance

Zac Fielder-

Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall some programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

CleanUp

Download LQfix.zip
Unzip it and save it to your desktop, don't use it yet!!

2. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.ezwebsearching.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.ezwebsearching.com/sp2.php

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

3. Delete Rogue files

Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, this is normal.

Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including temporary internet files

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

Folders

Do you have Bullet Proof software installed on your PC ?? or have you uninstalled / discontinued the use of it ???

Regarding the fix, it is better to do a fix in Safe mode as the infections are not running and thereefore have a better / cleaner fix. If we have no option of Safe Mode, then we do it in the Normal Mode only. It may take a little longer and may involve more manual intervention like fixing individual registry keys etc. but it can be done. Dont worry.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service63] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka63.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitegov32.exe

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -

Elite Toolbar

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\WINDOWS\etb <------ Full folder
C:\windows\system32\elitegov32.exe

Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, this is normal.

Run Ewido full scan. Let it fix any items it finds.

Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log and the Ewido scan report.

I might have, I can't remember.

I wish I could access safe mode, its just the wierdest thing for it to instantly reboot.

None the less, I followed your steps, I couldn't find the Elite Bar in my control panel

Nor the folders in my system and windows folders.

my fresh hijackthis log and Ewido Log

Download LQfix.exe and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick LQfix.exe and click install.
This will create a new folder called LQfix on your desktop.
Open the folder and doubleclick ClickThis.bat
Follow the prompts on the screen.
Your system will reboot afterwards.
Please be patient after reboot, because there is a script running in the background and it may take more than normal time to boot up.

Once the PC is up and running, run Hijack This and post a fresh log here

Heheh, I like you.

1) My PC Pisses me off, especially when it can't remember to keep my quicklaunch on, or when I'm typing, its like a magical arrow clicks off my screen.Safe mode doesn't work either. Other than that, She's my baby, and I love her.

2) I can't remember if I've ever had bulletproof software on there. It sounds like spyware, and I can't find any software with that name on my computer, You're knowledge is as good as mine on this one :tazz:

3) Do I like I.E. Search page? Oh yeah, that and eating cat litter, my two favorite things in the world :). I was thinking that in California, they probably allow software and people to get married, and I'm cue'd up to do that....

While the sarcasm is dripping from your words, you have smilies all over the place !!!!

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.
  • Please download LSPFix from here.
  • Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
  • Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  • In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of apptoport.dll.
  • Select every instance of apptoport.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
  • When you are done click Finish>>.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.24-7searc...ore.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.24-7searc...ore.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.24-7searc...ore.com/sp2.php
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.24-7searc...ore.com/sp2.php

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Click on Start ---> Run. In the new window type in -

sfc /scannow

and hit enter. This will check and verify all your system files.

Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log and let me know how the - sfc /scannow - goes.

Sorry about how long this took, I was on a work week, don't get much time to use my PC at home then.. I'm off for a few days now, I did what you asked, at first, it asked me to fix some windows files or something and put my XP disk in, I couldn't find it, so I cancelled it.

Later, I tried to do the sfc scan again and it ran real quick but didnt not ask me to fix my windows files

Got rid of the stuff on my PC

heres the log

Hah ha, Sorry, Like I mentioned it was a work week for me, doesn't usually free up enough of my time let alone sleeping and eating, thanks for noticing. :tazz:

Surprizingly, my computer seems to be doing its job rather effeciently. However, my same major problems exist

Can't put wallpapers up/ Change desktop pattern, I can go to my display properties and select a whole color, usually black, and it works until I restart, then it resumes its solid blue desktop pattern.

If I go to my control panel, and it looks "xp" stylish, and I want to switch to classic view, I may click it, it pauses for a moment, refreshes the screen and doesn't do the job. Almost as if it thinks about doing it and decides against it.

Quick Launch resets its self to default "not on" during restart, requires me to unlock the taskbar and turn it on each time i reboot.

Can't use safemode yet, did research, still nothing.

I would inquire so much as to wonder, do you think the reason that I cannot change my desktop or keep my taskbar is not so much a viral infection, but maybe the aftermath OF a viral infection? Suppose certain files were corrupted, or deleted, and maybe all I had to do was somehow use my windows xp cd to have those files replaced or recovered?

If you think this would work, suppose you have the answer to how I might try this?
