:tazz: I use Windows XP Professional no service packs ( I regret now)
Lately my system has been going funny. I have 5 profiles and all of them have been acting everytime i start them as if they are newly created. All my files remain intact though. But after sometime the desktop wallpaper goes away. and then there is a warning Windows Explorer needs to close and then the profile refreshes and then i get icons like those of Windows 2000. I use Norton Antivirus 2003 with the latest Definitions ( Its a new subscription) , ZoneAlarm standard firewall and Ad-Aware Se also with latest definitions. I ran scans and Norton detected a virus and deleted it, Ad-Aware also detected a new kind of spyware a toolbar named as elitewb . I deleted them but still experience the probelms so i opened taskmanager and saw a process named pokapoka63 . Please help me get rid of this. Also i have a file on my desktop temp532 and whenever i delete it it still comes back. Please dont tell me to install Service Pack 1 now. i will install it after this. plus service pack 2. Also the right click context menu turns black too and the recently used programs list disappears after a while. Do i need ewido security suite since i have all this? PLEASE HELP ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND I CAN ONLY DOWNLOAD FILES UP TO 13 MB - MY NET IS SLOW.:) i need help urgent as i primarily use IE and opera doesnt run some websites. :) here is my hijack this log too!

Hi teeku35, welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time. DO NOT UPGRADE TO SP2 AT THIS TIME
  • Click HERE for the update.
  • Apply the update.
  • REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM
  • Post a fresh Hijack This log
Regards,

Trevuren

Hello,
You told me to apply the Service Pack 1a Update for Windows XP. I downloaded the patch and tried to install it. But whenever I try to install it i get an error message that the registry key is not valid. and the installation stops. Isnt there any wy around this? Cant the malware be removed without installing the SP1a first? I work on the internet so I need to remove it as soon as possible. Please help.
:tazz:

*Please go http://www.howtotell.com ]here[/URL] (Microsoft website) using Internet Explorer ( not Firefox or any other browser as they won't work)
*Click on "Windows Validation Assistant"
*Click on the "Validate Now" button.
*Be patient while the ActiveX loads, do not click on any links.
*Read the instructions on this page while it's loading. You will be prompted to install - click YES.
*Enter your product key then click "continue"
*When it says "Validation Complete" please click "Continue to return to your previous activity"
*Copy what it says and paste it here

Hey ,

I finally got rid of that pokapoka63 spyware with a combination of a removal tool, lavasoft ad-aware scan and Spybot Search & Destroy Immunize function. Thanks for your help though and I finally got SP1a installed with a little assistance from Microsoft. Thanks for your help! :tazz:

Bye ,
Teeku35 :)
